WLS Daily Inspiration for December 28, 2010
Katie Jay, MSW
Reflect first, then plan.
On New Year's Eve, many people talk about their plans for the coming year. They make resolutions and hope for better times ahead. But before you start down the resolution path, pause for a moment and truly reflect. What can you learn from the past year about yourself? Have you discovered what works in terms of your health and what doesn't?
You can make resolutions soon (or better yet, set goals), but today look back. You owe it to yourself to learn your lessons, so that you can grow wiser and healthier in the coming year.
Action for the day: Even if you usually don't journal, take a few minutes to do this exercise. Make a list of things you wish you had done differently this past year, and then a list of what you did well. Next to the things you wish you had done differently, write down a step you can take to ensure you won't repeat that mistake. Next to the things you did well write down what you can do to continue having success in that area. Read this list every morning in January.

1st and foremost this is the 1st year I have not gained weight in 3 years. It has been harder than I thought but I have managed to lose about 25 pounds so far since March with many ups and downs.
For 2011, my main focus will be getting under 300 pounds. 298 in 2011 is going to be my mantra.....:-) So today I weigh 364, so I need to lose 70 pounds this year to be safely under 300 and I am going to do it. I don't think this is an unreasonable goal. I have learned a lot this year so I am prepared to do this. I December so far I have managed to lose 5 pounds. I am not going to make it back to my 360 like I wanted to do but I will be close.....:-) I have 2 more days, right?
You really rock and I love you and what you do really helps. I also want to take this time to thank you for the emails you send us doing the week from Spark People!!! They really help me stay mindful of my goals when I am discouraged or just feel like throwing in the towel and giving up. Today's inspiration was just what I needed!!
Love ya,
Molly
Happy 2011 to you & your loved ones.
Hugs~

I wanted to take time today to reflect on the year , and to wish you all a very Happy New Year .
Remember , if you are setting New Year Resolutions , keep in mind to keep it simple , keep it real . Set Goals that you know you accomplish . Even if you make the Resolution , and work towards it , and do not complete , give yourself credit for at least trying . If you do nothing , than you cannot say you tried .
I have enjoyed our days together here this past year . Our membership has grown by leaps and bounds . Ous suport group was featured in the OH Newsletter, as being Group of the Month . I am very pleased with our group . We have so many who support and inspire us each and every day .
My hope for you all is that you reach for the stars, dream big and always believe in yourselves.
I hope you all know that as your Group Leader , I am always here for you .
I am looking forward to a great 2011 ! And I also look forward to growing , learning and caring for you all .
HAPPY NEW YEAR ....

Finish the year on an up note.
You've made it through most of the holidays now. You've made some good choices and maybe some not-so-good choices. New Year's Eve will be here soon. Use the tips and tricks you've learned along the way to finish your year on an up note.
If you're going to a party, bring a WLS-friendly dish to share. Make a point to take small bites and chew thoroughly. Use a smaller plate. If it's a buffet, let someone you trust put food on your plate and bring it to you. Don't drink with your meals. Plan things to do with your hands other than eating: knitting, puzzles, games. Don't skip one meal in anticipation of the next. Remember, small choices matter.
Action for the day: Make a plan for the remainder of your holiday season. What a great way to kick off your new year.
