YA know , when I log on anf see your profile pic and your smile .. you make me smile.
I hope I did not come off as a bragger about no regain .... Trust me ... I am a food addict. I love food.. and if not for my therapy ... and getting a handle on what is real hunger versus ... head hunger .. I am able to whoop up on that head monster .

I get so many people who complain about regain .. while it is important to recognize , it is also not something to be shameful of . Your body knows when it is comforatable .. but if you are honest with oneself .. and you honestly know you are working the plan .. than you need to step back and reasjust things ..
1.  Look at your exercise routine... if you are doing the same ole thing every day , your body will stop burning the calories .. so for me .. One day I do cadrio , the next I walk .. One day I will weight train .. the next day I dance .. for one hour straight. Your body loves a challenge.. but it will stall out on you if you just keep to the same ole routine .

2. Calories in .. Calories out .. are you logging you food daily ... ? I still log my food in .. why .. Me gots to be accountable ..

3... Water is a great motabolism booster... the more you drink ... the better.

I just know for me it all boils down to resisting .. resiting that dang Krispy Creame Donut .. OMG these are my favorite thing in the world .. do I eat them .. Once in a blue moon. 2 bites .. this is my treat. for the month .

Well enough from me .. Back to packing .. and getting ready.
I will miss you all .
Love Tink

Good morning Lifestarts ! I have a few announcements to make . On the agenda first is , I will be attending the OH Event in New Orleans in September. If there are any members here who want to join me , I can provide to you a code that will give you a discount on your tickets. If you are interested on more information on the event go to : http://www.obesityhelp.com/events/2011-new-orleans-event.html I would so love for you to join me at this event. As I said if you  want tickets please email me for your special code to receive your discount.   Second , I will be leaving tomorrow for vacation. I will not be available by Internet, phone or email . My husband and I will be on a 7 day cruise to the Caymans and beyond. This is a celebration with my WLS inspiration , a lady whose profile I read 7 years ago , that lead me to make the decision to have surgery. She is one of the sweetest , kindest woman I have ever met. She has invited myself and my husband to celebrate in her 10 year anniversary. While my health is improving , this vacation is much needed , My husband , my rock has been through so much in being with me while going through my surgeries this year. I am truly blessed to have him . I so want you all to continue to post and support one another while I am away. If there is someone who wants to step in and do the daily devotionals , please feel free . Support is so important in our lives . No matter if you are pre op or post op . It is a forever way of life … I will miss you all and hope that you all have a great week .. and for all the mothers here , Happy Mothers day. Well , that is it for me today .. I will be shutting down my computer tonight and then I am off tomorrow for Miami. Love and blessings to all , Tink

Your WLS is a tool.  So it is good you were in on that meeting to see re-gain is very real but it does not have to be you either.  50 percent of WLS patients gain back 50 percent of their weight in 5 years.  How this falls out depends entirely on you.

To prevent regain you just need to always work at it.  The sooner the better.  Don't go back to old habits and believe it will not be you.  Don't get over confident and ****y.  Once honeymoon is over you get become laid back and old habits creep back in.  No more dumping, stop exercising as much.  You don't realize that is is going to be a lot of effort and hard work for life to keep the pounds you lost off.

Believe you can do it because 80% or more keep off 60 to 80% of their lost weight and those averages are great.  The reason you heard many of us regainers on the teleconference last month is because we are not quitting and looking for support.  So in the big picture we were only a few or the minority.  I do believe many who gain do not seek out support to get back on track.  So IF you find yourself slipping or gaining make sure you seek out support as we have done.  Good job on being proactive.

Molly ,
Excellent answer.
As you said .. our WLS is a tool. And one must always remember this . I know for me once I was out of the honeymoon stage , I had to work hard at it . I kept to my diet , I exercised daily .. and kept up with going to support groups , talking to others further out than I ...

I always tell my mentorees, that the key for me is PROTEIN + WATER + EXERCISE = WEIGHTLOSS.

I am proud to say , I will be 7 years post op , May 27th of this year ... no regain. Trust me , I have and still do work hard at this . It is a FOREVER way of life .

Staying accountable , working out , staying in touch with your doctor if you feel you are regaining.. talking to others who are post ops ..

Normally people regain about 15 pounds.  To me .. as long as you are not regaining more than 20 pounds .. it is still success, as you are not at your starting weight... and nothing to be ashamed of.
HARD WORK PAYS OFF .

Thanks again Molly !

Shannon,
Thank you for sharing this with us.
As we know , each doctor has different proticols for each type of surgery and their practice.

I am 7 years postop as of May 27th this year .
I can tell you what my protocol was when I first got started ,

3 MEALS A DAY AND 1 SNACK
WATER - 90 OUNCES OR MORE
PROTEIN - DOCTOR REQUESTED 50 TO 70 .. HOWEVER I DID 120 GRAMS OF PROTEIN...
CARBS - 2O TO 40
SUGAR , NO MORE THAN 4 GRAMS PER SERVING
FATS - 20 GRAMS

 I started my day wtih a protein shake , ( NECTAR )
When I reached soft stage ... my breakfast consited of one poached egg - yogurt or cottage cheese
Lunch - lentil or bean soup .. blended till mushy 1/2 cup or more cottage cheese or greek yogurt mixed with Sugar Free Jello pudding ,
Dinner - LOW FAT REFRIED BEANS (  I made them from scratch )
Mushed up Sweet Potatoes .. ( Sweet potatoes are lower in carbs than normal potatoes ) I also made them from scratch.
Home made cheese nips ..( you take 2 ounces of Low fat cheddar cheese, put it in a non stick skillet.. and let it melt and harden.

My snack consisted of yogurt , cottage cheese , or sugar free ice cream .. low fat and sugar free.
I also would freeze the yogurt and make a frozen treat.
I sipped on water all day...
And after my evening work out , I would do another protein shake.

Thanks for the reminder Tink!  I have gotten into a rut of reading a lot of posts and not responding as much.  I have almost reached my goal after losing over 110 pounds and have settled into a nice routine.  I know how important it is for those who have just had a procedure or are about to have surgery to participate.  However, it is equally important for people to help others once they have had a certain amount of success.  Paying it forward and backwards is important for keeping a healthy outlook personally as well as helping others.
