Helping Others Find Their Way to a Life They Deserve!
I just wanted to introduce myself to this board. My name is Iris, I live in Los Angeles, and I'm getting my VSG tomorrow (!). The main thoughts going through my head are:
1: OMG! OMG! OMG! etc
2: I know this is weird, but I am on day two of the clear liquid diet and I feel like I am going through food withdrawel. Is that even possible?
Anyway, I am beyond excidted about the surgery, but also a little frightened. This is just a step, but a big one, and I don't want to screw it up.
Thanks all.

Helping Others Find Their Way to a Life They Deserve!
I notice you live not too far from me. (I'm Gainesville, used to be Sterling for a bit) I will be going to the monthly support group at the Fairfax hospital. Do you know of any other support groups that are around our area?
I've never been a joiner, but think that is something I need to change to be successful. I stay at home. I've only lived here a year so I get kind of isolated and think going to a group with people I have something in common with would be good for me.
Any tips?
I never thought WLS was for me. I didn't research it and just heard enough to think, "why would people do that?" I was convinced lots of people were dying on the operating table.
Time marched on and so did the lbs. I lost 30 only to gain it back. When I was at WW I really thought I had my head screwed on right. I didn't. The bounce back made my health so much worse.
I got tired enough of feeling bad and realized I was scared to try conventional means again only to fail and make my health even worse.
I really got scared enough into it. I just wanted to feel better physically and I realized this was probably the only path to doing so.
I started researching and saw those stats weren't nearly as scary as I'd thought. I saw former sweetaholics bursting with energy 10 years out from surgery. I want some of that.
So in just over two weeks, all going well and no last minute issues, I'll be getting my surgery and starting my fight back to wellness.
That is some serious weight loss, congrats. A new job as well. That is really great, especially in the climate. Well done you.
I am Katie and I am 22 years old. I had surgery with Dr Afram in DC on March 15th of this year. I had a lot of things go wrong at the beginning. I had to have my stricture dilated a bunch of times and I had to go back into the hospital several times because of dehydration. It took me almost 4 months not to be nauseous ALL the time!
But now I am feeling better than I ever have in my life. I am down 108 lbs and am eating great. I just got a new job and I have so much energy. This has been the best thing in my life! I am excited to gain the support of this group!!
Hugs and Blessings ,
