Lisa,
I'm sorry about the Lyme Disease and being out of work. I know its hard with today's economy.
Being that you are in Pa it is way too cold to walk outside. I'm in upstate NY and my fingers are hurting just going outside for a few minutes. You can always walk in a mall. Just put your headphones on and walk the inside perimeter. Or meet with a friend and catch up on each other lives while walking. You can look on-line for stretches and exercises not requiring weights or use canned foods as your weights. Dont hurt yourself  though go with the stretches until you can move better. Gage how you feel that day.

I will keep you in prayer.

Topic: Just in...Me...minus exercise :-(

Hi,

Today's my first day back on OH after some months.  During this time, my life has become all about fighting Lyme disease.

I've been mostly too sick or in too much pain to get much exercise.  When, with pain meds, I manage a good walk, I'm on the couch the rest of the day!  It's hard.

I've gained weight.  Mostly for no good reason...I've read that this often happens with Lyme.  Not sure what that's about.  Probably affects the metabolism as it affects nearly every other system in the body.  Of course, lack of exercise doesn't help.  And the last few months, my eating has gone all to hell, so that has added to the problem.  Bored eating.  That is, as I lose the ability to do so many things I love to do, I find myself snacking more.  :-(

I just started with a new specialist yesterday and she's really on the ball.  Along with new antibiotics, she's got me on a regular course of B12.  Wow - that's something you don't know you're missing until you get it back!  She also talked about making my system less hospitable to the Lyme by cutting out sugar, white starch, and dairy.  So, here I go...again!

With my eating, I am getting back to basics.  Very much so.  I started today and am doing well, pushing the protein and the water.

I just read Tink's post in which she writes:

PROTEIN+WATER+EXERCISE = WEIGHTLOSS

I need help with the exercise portion.  I need some ideas.  I can't afford a gym/pool because we're both out of work and uninsured.  That's simply not do-able.  I want to do something.  I can't seem to do anything with any consistency because I hurt so much and feel so sick so much of the time.  Like I said, whenever I manage any exercise (which I try every time I do get a lower pain or higher energy day/hour), it does me in.

It seems almost pointless to do anything if it means I'll be up all night in agony or sacked out on the couch or bed, unable to lift my head.

It's frustrating as hell.

Anyhow...glad to be back...will be grateful for any encouragement on offer...

Lisa

Topic: RE: WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS
My goals for 2010 is to become a certified OH Support Group Leader helping and aspiring others in their decision of haiving WLS. I would like to stay consistant in the leadership training program.

I would like to also organize and run my own in-person support group here in my area and feature special classes and special people in the WLS circuit.

Thirdly, to be the best wife, mother, grandma, and daughter I can be to my family and embracing all the new things that God has for me in this upcoming year.

And last but not least, to stay fit and healthy for ME!

Topic: RE: WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS
My first goal is to have my surgery and get through recovery as quickly and uneventful as possible.

My next goal is before the year is out to do at least one 5k. I don't know if I like running(right now walking is a chore) but I want to try.

Organize Organize Organize.

And I like the idea of the garden that was mentioned. Before it hurt my back to bend over and dig or weed. So needless to say that fizzled out fast.

And of course to be able to spend more time in God's word

Happy New Years Everyone

Topic: RE: WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS
Hi there!!! Funny you should post this today. david and I were just discussing this topic last night. His is simply to quit smoking. Mine is a little more involved but I'm already working on it. I want to quit procrastinating. PERIOD. I want to be able to take pride in saying "Look at me - I finish the things that I've started".

I've applied and been accepted at Regent University in Va. Beach so I'm working on finishing my undergrad degree. I'm really excited about that. That's the biggest goal on the list.

Expanding my vegetable garden this year is also on the list. I had one this past summer and it brought me a tremendous amount of satisfaction. I want it to be big enough this year that I can can, preserve or freeze a portion of it. Not to mention the benefits both mental and physical from working in the garden.

I've learned a lot about myself during the WLS process and I want to continue with that. I plan on continuing to journal. It has made such a difference to me. I tend to become almost obsessive over sertain areas in my life so I really want to work on channeling those into some positives - like Exercise and nutrition.

See now aren't you glad you asked????

My first goal is to safely get through surgery and back home again.

The second goal is to get my certifications before the end of 2010;  work in progress presently.

Third goal is to remain on the Dean's List for all of 2010. I'll worry about 2011 when it comes!

Fourth is to set realistic mini goals and celebrate accomplishing them by rewarding myself with special 'me time' activities. Right now my life literally revolves around my family and I have very little time for myself. I plan to change that with the coming New Year.

My fifth and last goal is to continue to accept that which I cannot change, change what I can, and have common sense to know the difference.

Happy Holidays everyone!!

Hello Everyone,

I would like to exercise more often, minimum 3 days a week, I am really shooting for 4 days a week. I have fallen off the exercise wagon for almost 2 weeks now and I really need to do it again. I have let every excuse stop me but I am determined to reach my goal. I feel so much better when I do it.
