Your faithfulness to our group is amazing. I very much appreciate all
your work. Have a blessed day~
Ever been angry or upset one minute and then on your couch eating the next, unable to remember why you started eating or how long you had spent munching? If so, then you have entered the world of emotional eating. It’s something than can happen to anyone, and one of the most common dieting obstacles out there.
Emotional eating at its best passes after a few minutes. At its worst, it can take over your life and cause you to eat uncontrollably for extended periods of time. And according to nutritional experts, 75% of overeating is caused by emotions. So don’t worry, if you suffer from emotional eating, you are not alone.
People often eat to relieve stress or to get something off their minds. The kicker is that stress, and the insulin jump that goes with it, may actually cause you to crave high sugar, high carbohydrate foods – foods that go straight to your waistline and cause you even more stress.
Rather than munching, it's better to develop new skills for dealing with boredom, self-esteem issues and stress. Try to pinpoint the major reasons for your stress or unpleasant emotions, and see how you can turn the tide. Here are a few suggestions to combat your emotions:
- Get your trigger foods out of the house, get your crutch foods out of arms' reach
- Go for a walk or jog. Physical activity relieves stress.
- Do deep breathing and relaxation exercises
- Keep a reminder of your goal handy
- Talk to a friend
- Visit and post on the support message boards
- Surround yourself with positive reinforcers, like pictures and people
- Keep a journal that includes your best personal accomplishments
- Track your eating patterns, including when and why you pick up food.
- Apple or orange slices
- Carrot sticks
- Banana
- Broccoli
- Whole wheat toast
- Bran muffin
- Fruit smoothie
- Applesauce

Wow, what wonderful questions Natalie,
How has your self esteem changed since your surgery or your weight loss ? My self-esteem has changed remarkably, where I do not let nothing or nobody bring me down anymore. If I find they are negative in any sense, I have a motto now, MUCH TO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!" I cut stress absolutely off in any type, shape, way or form because it was the main thing that helped me put the pounds on and so I do not give in to it in any way any more in order to maintain by control and sanity in my WLS journey.
What kind of protien drinks are you doing ? I do Spiru-Teen high protien energy drink (strawberry) I like this drink because it consists of all soy protein and taste good
What type of exercise do you do ? I do a combination of cardio for 15 min and strength ex. for about 30 minutes. I am in the gym about 3 times a week. When I am not able to get to the gym I try to incorporate cardio in my daily lifestyle by taking the stairs, walking, etc...and doing my power bands to stay toned.
Do you belong to a support group in your area ? Yes, I have a schedule of my support groups in my area that I attend.
What is your GO TO food when you have head hunger ? Wow, my go to food would have to be kel corn popcorn!
And one question, that you did not ask but something I would like to add is, How has the surgery changed my life? I am the healthiest, happiest, and very motivated in all that I do. I thank God first and foremost for his guidance and giving me the strength to do what I do on a daily basis, and my surgeon and family for all their support in my life..
Thank u for giving the members a chance to speak.
I know the feeling. My daughter has been overweight since she was a child too and she just gave birth to her daughter 4 months ago and is struggling to lose the weight. Because she is still young and has not tried the other weight loss options. However, she started going to Weigh****chers and I am assisting her along the way. It keeps us connected ...
Know that your success will pivot her into a better lifestyle for herself where now she can look up to you as a role model for that guidance. So stay encouraged!
