Hey everyone! I was approved for surgery yesterday! I went around to get my surgery clearances done today. Now I'm waiting for a surgery date. I'm looking for any and ALL advice from those that have already done the surgery, so please send it my way
Thank you everyone!

Candice ,

First of all , BREATHE ...
You will probably go through a ton of emotions .
When I got my approval , what I did was start looking at a WLS diet plan for someone just out of surgery and start thinking or trying foods that you will need . The only bad thing about this is your taste buds are going to change after surgery .

I would start thinking about Exercise after surgery . What are you prepared to do . For me I started out simple by walking. This was the best thing for me . Always remember to Lose you gotta move . The surgery is a tool and you have to work the tool .

Keep in mind this equation , WATER + PROTEIN + EXERCISE = WEIGHTLOSS .

Do not compare yourself to others . You will lose at your own pace .  Some lose slower , some lose faster .
Water is going to be your best friend . Water helps to boost your motabolism .
First out you will not be able to get in much .. so sip sip sip .
Start thinking about your protein supplements. Get with your doctor or your nuticionist and see what type of diet you will be on and what protein grams they want for you . In my case, I did 80 grams a day,

Always follow your doctors protocol . You will get some great advice , but always let your surgeon know of the things you want to do .
I am almost 8 years out , and I still do my protein . Keep a list of your medications and suppliemts .

If you want to send me an Email here for me to answer any questions I am here for you .
God bless,

Tink

Thank you! I'm ahead of the game with the exercise thing, so that shouldn't be a problem. I know I'm going to go crazy waiting until I can get back to the gym :P

I loved going to the gym .. I literally swam off 200 pounds . I did a lot of water walking . I will never forget how I felt going to the gym before surgery and how people would look at me .. and as the weight came off , I got so many compliments and it really encouraged me ...

I would go to the ladies room to undress , and look in the mirror and remember one day just bursting out crying ... I finally looked like a gym rat .. you know .. those skinny gals people gawk at see running their butts off on the liptical ... it felt great .

I cannot express how important exercise is with your new tool . The surgery is not going to work alone , you are going to need help with burring those calories .

I am jealous ... I want to do it all over again ... I do not have many wow moments anymore being 8 years out .. except for knowing that I made it and I am a survivor .

Best to you ,
Love ,
Tink

Congrats Candice!  Tink said it all!  I would like to add one more thing.  Remember the WLS is only a TOOL and that you will have to do your part and exercise is key if you want to keep the weight off.   Even now you can start walking a little.  10 to 15 min a day.

Also remember the honeymoon is short just like in a real marriage so lose as much weight as you can in your honeymoon months!!  Good luck to you!
