WHY YOU HAD WLS ..

Today's handout has to do with why you had WLS.

I wanted to share with you my reasons for having this most life saving surgery.
At the age of 39 , I was diagnosed with diabetes and high cholesterol. My feet had become so bad that I had to have a day nurse come and scrub my feet to the bone. i was told that if I did not have WLS I may not live to see my 45th birthday. I then found OH and I read a lot of profiles. One in particular that inspired me so , that I got on the phone that day and scheduled my appointment for a consultation.
I had 2 children who needed me , I had 2 new grandchildren that needed me.. and I was determined nothing was going to take that away from me . While I had fears , I put it in God's hands and survived the surgery and after 7 years ... I have managed from 359 pounds to 130 . I had gotten down as low as 119, but that was due to my metabolism taking off due to my exercise routine. I had to add more calories and cut back my cardio.
Today I am healthy , I have no more symptoms of Diabetes .. and very healthy. Thanks to that one profile I read here on OH .. and the inspiration to Live and watch my children live.
So if you want to share your reasons for having the surgery, you could possibly inspire someone reading it to also make the decision to change their life and to live.

I hated being fat or what I perceived as being fat. As I increased in girth, I realized that I was not in a healthy state, mentally or physically, to care for my 2 teens. They both have spinal muscular atrophy and depend solely on me for their physical needs. If I am not able to properly care for myself, how could I possibly care for them?
So, I got off my ass, found a PCP who understood my goals and needs, found a surgeon, who I personally and professionally liked, affiliated with an excellent hospital, and jumped the necessary hoops to get it done.
It has been a little over a year and I am still in my losing phase, but I love the many changes that have occurred. Even with the complications I had during and after surgery, I would gladly do it all again, just to have the renewed energy to give my teens the care they need.
What more could I ask for? Ohh and added bonus? High blood pressure gone, joint pains gone, and I can wear my clothes from high school! How cool is that!?!?!
