Hi, I'm Cece  I joined  this website to get motivated for my gastric bypass surgery. I got approved and now doing all my testing. I have to say I am sooo nervous about doing it. I have 3 ladies I know gained almost their wt. back. I love to bake and of course eat it too. lol.... my daughters don't want me to have it. I lost my husband last month of stomach cancer , they are affraid that they are going to loose me. So that makes me think twice about this surgery. They tell me that I can loose it on my own, I have tried and keep gaining more back. Did anyone of you have problems with surgery or gained the wt. back ?

Hi Cece, I'm glad you've come to Life-Starts. First I want to say I'm really sorry the loss of your husband. I can understand your daughter's fear. How old are your daughters? Being nervous is so so normal. My emotions were all over the place - fear, excitement, anxiety, knowing I was doing the right thing then the next feeling like I'm not. I was very afraid I might die. I even wrote letters to family & friends in the event I died. I figured I was slowly dieing with my obesity and related health issues.
This surgery is a giant power tool to get you down the road on weight loss for better health. Eventually the desire to eat comes back. For me, I know that for the rest of my life I will fight this monster. I must have good eating habits, exercise, &  accountability.  I had RNY 12-21-09. I've lost 96 pounds and feel better than I have for a long time. My diabetes & sleep apnea are gone. My confidence is better than in a very long time. I do believe that we can gain weight back if we go back to bad habits. For me I feel bad if I eat the wrong things which helps motivate. Exercise is my hardest thing to consistently do. I just keep working at it.
Is is okay if I pray for you and your daughters? Keep me posted on your journey. Do you have any idea about when your surgery will be?

Hugs,
Annie

Well , CECE ., I am going to put it out here .. I am a Christian , and I believe when God calls us home it is our time. I am so sorry to hear about your husband , what a tragic loss.
But CECE .. if you want to be around for those girls , this surgery can and will give you that chance .
Are there complications , yes , just like with any surgery there are risk , But I can tell you ... I have been around for 7 years and when I hear of people passing away due to surgery , it normal had to do with the co-mobilities they had prior to going into the surgery. ie... Diabetes , Cholesterol , High blood pressure , Sleep apnea , Heart disease .
I would recommend to ease your girls minds that you get a complete physical done , so that way they can see how ready you are .
I can understand them not wanting to lose their Momma .. you are all they have left now . But just think .. a year from now , when you are down 100 or more pounds and healthy ,, are they going to be shocked and ready to go out and celebrate.

As to regain .. IT IS UP TO YOU !! ... WLS is a tool . And if you abuse the tool , you are going to regain . If you use alcohol , if you drink with your meals .. if you eat the wrong things , yes you can gain the weight back , But just like any program you must work the tool to the best of it;s ability . And it all comes down to how bad you want it . As for me .. I keep a picture if my Obese self on my fridge , and when I want that piece of pie , I reach for that yogurt and add some granola .. it is easy to do .

And if you need support , there is ton of it here . We are all here and have been where you are  . I challenge you to use us and to believe in yourself . Love yourself enough to get healthy and give those girls the Mother they so deserve .

Love and respect for fighting the disease they call Obesity ,
