hi All......it's great hearing about your appts. I am a bit slower than you all...my fitness walk isn't until next Monday. I guess they only do the fitness tests during certain times so I had to wait until school was over. I am going to Kauai on the 15th for 8 days with my 2 daughter in laws and their baby girls....just a girl trip so will be away from the putor for a while. I'll check back in with you all when I get home.....we should all get together soon...hugz:)Deanna
Topic: consultation with PB
Hi everyone-
My experience was similar to Sian. I also saw Dr. Rumsey but I had a different internist and pychiatrist. Dr. Rumsey was my first appointment. He was great and my experience and impressions were the same as Sian.
My next appointment was with the psychiatrist and it was 1/2 a mile from the PB offices so I walked. Parking is always a challenge and I just left my car in the parking structure and got in a little exercise between appointments.
My last appointment of the day was about 2 blocks away from PB, on Washington. The internist was very nice and funny. He keeps his dog at the office so I got to meet him as well.
All three appointments were positive and all the doctor's were friendly and helpful.

Topic: Vitamin special at CVS/Walgreens
CVS and Walgreens (and possibly other locations) have a special right now on their vitamins and minerals. Buy one get one free!! Not only that, but today (Sunday) paper has a dollar off coupon for Nature's Bounty and Nature Made brands.
I plan to use the Celebrate Vitamins for my multivitamins after surgery, but I have bought other vitamins in the regular brands.
Nature's Bounty has a very tasty B12-Sublingual, that melts nicely and tastes good (light cherry flavor). From what I've read, we'll need to take approx 2500-5000mg of B-12 weekly after surgery, so I bought the 5000mg version. Regular price is $11.99 (30count), and walked out with 4 bottles for $21.98 (would normally cost 47.96 + tax)
Since I was low in vitamin D, I also now have to take it daily (along with my multivitamin). I take 5000ui daily, and it is sold in this measurement by Nature Made. Regular price $18.99 (90count), and I walked out with 4 bottles for 35.98 (would normally cost 75.96 + taxes).
So right now, I have my years supply of D3 and B12, just trying to stockpile my vitamins so that I'm prepared.

I know some of you are curious as to what happens at the first meeting with PBG, so I figured I'd write up a quick post and let you know what to expect.
First off, you will not need to go to the hospital, like you did with the information seminar. The PBG office is located accross the street from the hospital at 4060 Fourth Street. There is a parking structure on that side of the road, next to the building.
All three appointments, the Internist, the Surgeon and the Psychiatrist were in the afternoon for me, ranging from 2pm to 5pm. The Internist and Surgeon are located in the same building, on the same floor, with each office side by side to the other. The Psychiatrist is located about a 5 minute drive away on Front Street.
My first appointment was with the Internist at 2pm. The nurse took my vitals, weight, height, etc, and also completed an EKG (it took longer to put the sticky pads and cables on me than the actual reading itself!!). Then Dr. Khehar came in and asked me a few medical questions. He is a very friendly (and quite good looking), young Indian guy. He was happy with all my responses and my vitals, and told me to head on over to my next appointment with the Surgeon. Who, is only in the office next door. There was no co-pay for this visit.
So out one door and into the next, my Surgeon appointment was scheduled for 2:45pm. They were running behind, just a little, but from what I could see, patients were going in and out fairly quickly. The nurse took some vitals again, asked which surgery I was wanting to have and gave me some information, including a CD for the computer that contains a large PDF document to read through regarding surgery prep, what will happen surgery day, and post surgery. I hate to tell you this, but a lot of the information that is in the PBG document, is different to what we learnt from Kaiser Options Class, but don't panic. We know the fundamentals of it all, and the PBG instructions are right in front of us in black and white!
I met with Dr. Rumsey, and he was wonderful. You will need to strip down to your panties and put on a paper gown. He'll do a quick physical (nothing internal), and have you dress before sitting down and talking to you. He went over the surgery (very briefly), asked me about my support network, and also requested that I try to lose 10 lbs between now and surgery day. He was very easy to talk to and seemed pleased with my current fitness level, and that I would be perfect as a surgery candidate.
I did have to pay $20 for a co-pay with the Surgeon visit.
Finally, I headed off to the Psychiatrist appointment, which is about a 5 minute drive away, for a 4pm appointment. It is a big, Victorian style home, in a residential area. You walk in and just head straight to the waiting room, and the Psychiatrist will come out to get you. Parking is a bit of a ***** its all street parking, so pray that you get that lucky parking space find, or practise on your reverse parallel parking skills! LOL
I met with Dr. Margolis, and she was a very nice lady. She came accross as one of those alternative, almost hippie style people, but very easy to talk to and provided a relaxing space. She asked questions about my weight, how long I've been overweight, etc. Also asked about my childhood, growing up, my family, my support network, goals for after surgery, adjustments that I'd need to make, etc. In all, I was there for 30-45 minutes, I'm not 100% sure. There was no co-pay for this appointment.
Basically, the Internist and Psychiatrist will forward their reviews to the Surgeon, within days, and PBG will contact me within 2-3 weeks, after corresponding with Kaiser, to schedule a surgery date. And that, ladies, is about it! Nothing to be nervous about. They were all very friendly and easy to be around.
Ok, and I realized that this post wasn't so "quick" as I thought it was going to be. LOL

Sounds great! I also was told to put my name on the cancellation list when I told him my timeline and the psych. told me that they will turn in their reports in 2 or 3 days and make recommendations next week. I feel really hopeful, especially since you talked about the visitor to our class who was scheduled for July but due to a cancellation had hers in May...

He said the same thing to me, that he wanted to see me lose another 10lbs, and I said no problem! I really liked him too, he was very down to earth and easy to talk to.
I'm going to go with the Rouxen Y also. He said it would be up to 3 weeks for PB to finalize everything with Kaiser and that they will call with a surgery date. He said to expect something towards the end of summer. But I did mention about wanting to be on the cancellation list, and he said that would be fine.
I'm in a rush tonight, but I will type more about my experience today, sometime tomorrow morning.

I am 283 this week, up 10 lbs. from our last weigh in at group. I have noticed I am hungrier when I take the vitamins but probably because my body likes the nutrients. I don't know if any are supposed to make you hungry though. I went to PB yesterday and the countdown begins! I have been told to lose another 6-8 lbs. I hope your appointments today went well. I wanted to e-mail this AM and really wished I had your phone number to tell you about my experience. I really liked Dr. Rumsey and the rest of the team assessing me. I am going with the Rouxen Y. Talk to you soon.
