Topic: RE: One week post-op appointment
Hard to believe it's been a week already! Time just flew by!
Glad to hear that all is well and that he is happy with your progress.
Did he give you the all clear to drive and/or exercise? Or at least a date of when you can?

Today went great. Dr. Tanaka said I am doing wonderful and he is proud of me (and no...I didn't mention the driving and he didn't ask.) He even gave me a hug at the end ...wow.
Mild heartburn is ok, it will go away. My incisions are ok, even though they look infected (pix below). He said the incision is great. The skin around them is not happy and is just flaring up. Topical benadryl would take care of it if I wanted to purchase it, but it's not necessary.
I have to be on clear liquids for 8 more days. Then I can have yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, tofu, and eggs (all low fat / non fat). BUT I have to get in my protein 50-70g first thing in the morning...
MORNING: double scoop of protein mix in 8 oz of low fat / non fat milk
LUNCH: items listed above, but only what I can eat in a half an hour
DINNER: items listed above, but only what I can eat in a half an hour
Water between meals, and an occasional piece of fruit mixed in the a.m. shake or with the lunch and dinner items "for flavor."
Next appointment is Sept. 15th. Hopefully he will add more food then???

hi Becca.....ok, sounds good. Right now, I have 3....little white fluffy Bichons, but I have had up to 7 once. I am invovled in rescue work so some of the dogs I have are fosters. I used to have the big Dalmatians......what fun. What kind do you have??:)D

Awww...I love fur children :) I have 5
In my opinion I think you would be fine by the second day home. The first day (the day I came home), I could have done everyday tasks, but all I wanted to do was rest. I think I still had quite a bit of pain med's from the hospital in me. They made me REALLY tired. The second day I was doing great. I don't think stairs will be a problem at all. You will do great

wow......how did I get so lucky????I was wondering, do you think that I can come home after surgery and be by myself or do I need someone with me? Maybe have someone come in just to feed my fur kids for a few days????Or????Your posts sound like you were able to handle most things.....my bedroom is on the second story, do you think that I will be able to do stairs? We are all anxious to hear about your appt today. Will you drive or have someone take you????Thanks for letting us all learn from you...hugz:)Deanna

Thanks Janet!
I had the sleeve. It was just the best fit for me...and Dr. Tanaka agreed (so that was good). The water is so hard for me to get down...actually everything is so hard for me to get down. The Doc said my stomach can hold 20cc's. That's only 3/4 of an ounce. I know over time it will stretch.
My friend Shelley (pumkindoodle) is in our group now too. She had RNY. If you have any questions, I know she would be happy to answer them.

He said I'm on clear liquids for two weeks! I'll find out more tomorrow. Each day I can take in a little more water.
Monday (first day home): 1/4 of a protein shake and 2 oz. of water
Today: a whole protein shake, 1/2 cup of jello, and 24 oz of water
The heartburn is getting better. Shelley suggested I ask them for a different heartburn medication than the protonics (sp). I think something stronger will help.
No hunger yet, but my head still needs fixing. I was at the beach in Del Mar today and as I was leaving I was checking out all the cool little places down there. I drove by this sandwich shop, that was just too cute, and my first thought was "I think I'll stop there for lunch." I felt stupid.
PS..you should be fine for classes after 7 days. That works out soooo much better than four!

No, but I heard he is good. I think you can search people by surgeon on OH. and some write surgeon testimonials.
