One week post-op appointment

Today went great. Dr. Tanaka said I am doing wonderful and he is proud of me (and no...I didn't mention the driving and he didn't ask.) He even gave me a hug at the end ...wow.

Mild heartburn is ok, it will go away. My incisions are ok, even though they look infected (pix below). He said the incision is great. The skin around them is not happy and is just flaring up. Topical benadryl would take care of it if I wanted to purchase it, but it's not necessary.

I have to be on clear liquids for 8 more days. Then I can have yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, tofu, and eggs (all low fat / non fat). BUT I have to get in my protein 50-70g first thing in the morning...

MORNING: double scoop of protein mix in 8 oz of low fat / non fat milk
LUNCH: items listed above, but only what I can eat in a half an hour
DINNER: items listed above, but only what I can eat in a half an hour

Water between meals, and an occasional piece of fruit mixed in the a.m. shake or with the lunch and dinner items "for flavor."

Next appointment is Sept. 15th. Hopefully he will add more food then???

Hard to believe it's been a week already! Time just flew by!

Glad to hear that all is well and that he is happy with your progress.

Did he give you the all clear to drive and/or exercise? Or at least a date of when you can?

Actually, he didn't say. He did say to make sure I was exercising, but didn't specify the do's and the don'ts. Here is the paper they sent me home with...

I talked to Karen Hughes today...she called to update my file. And she said I should call PB to get clearance for all activity...even sex.

My feeling is, I know my body better than they do. I won't lift anything to heavy (more than 10 pounds is what they say) or do any kind of extreme twisting or bending  until I see the Doc in Sept, but I am going to continue living my normal life.

PS. Karen said don't worry about the water intake. They like you to get to 32 oz the first couple weeks after surgery. Then gradually work up to the 64oz requirement.. Today I had a protein shake, Unjury chik soup with 4oz water and some non salt seasoning for flavor, 1/4 cup Jello and 7oz water.  She said my liquid intake was fine, just try to reach the 22oz mark again that I hit with the water yesterday.

And dookie every three days is good, even if it's just a pebble.

Good Luck! The 25th is getting closer everyday (lol)

5 incisions and two little holes from these weird wire they had in me with lidocane for skin comfort after surgery. All of the incisions look icky like that. Today the scabs are starting to come off, but it frickin itches like crazy. Here is a pix from in the hospital...
