I have encountered that reaction before. Hi, my name is Carol and I am on the AMC's Program for Gastric Bypass-which should be about the end of December or in January-hoping for the Dec time.
I work for Albany Medical Center on the Cardiac floor-night shift and while most everyone has been supportive of my idea there was one Nurse-from the 3-11 shift that does not have a positive view of WLS and told me that the Surgery is for people who eat too much and cannot control their eating.
I mentioned to her that her thoughts while her own are out dated and she needed to get more information on it.
My husband is very supportive of me as is the rest of my family-who are out of state. My 30 year old son thinks it is fantastic.
So, I have a very good support system in place. I researched it very thoroughly before my decision to do so and I am diabetic. I have most of the WLS books out there in print and on ebook style (kindle and Nook).
Nov 20th I have the pulmonary eval to do. Nov 12th is my pap Smear (haven't had one in 15 years)
I will be at the Support groups (11am-12) on Nov 12th and 26th. I will try to make one on next Thursday-5:30pm-7;30pm-not sure about the evening one as I work the night before and I work that night.
I am off work the day before on both the Nov 12th and 26th meetings so that makes it easier.
Carol
You tell someone you are thinking about WLS. Do you remember the reaction?
The public has some rather odd opnions about WLS. Only 2% of all candidates jump on that gurney.
Why? We are discouraged by a society that seems to think we are taking the easy way out.
