hi hon.....glad the meet with Dr. Starr went well......I just love him!  I go for my appts this Thursday so I will let you know what happens.  I am so frigging nervous though.  My appt with Dr. Glazer is February 15 :( which seems so far away, so I can only imagine what you are feeling with May!!  They will be able to fit you in somewhere before them for sure! I didn't have to have any bloodwork done when I met Starr.....maybe my family doc had already done them, I mean I feel like I am giving blood all the time.

Topic: HRRH Surgeon Dr.Starr

Okay so I went to see Dr.Starr from HRRH on November 28th/2014. I like him very much he is very kind and funny to boot. Humor is a quality I don't often see in surgeons and I like it :-) He answered all my questions and advise me that he feels I would be most successful with RNY. I hadn't really made up my mind which surgery I preferred anyway so it really wasn't a big concern of mine. He said he would do my surgery the next available date if all my other appointments were finished but unfortunately I still have to see everybody else. SW/Clinic Nurse and Dietitian are on December 15th/2014 and the earliest appt Dr.Glazer had was May26th/2015 ???? Dr.Starr did say that if I was cleared by the SW/Nurse and Dietitian he was sure something could be done to get me in to see Dr.Glazer sooner. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm hopefully that my next round of appointments goes smoothly and that I only have to see them once :-) Onward and Upward as they say. Had to have blood work done they took 12 vials holy vampires lol

Topic: Needing leftover Optifast - help!

Hi all :)

Hopefully this post won't be classified as selling, and I ask anyone who can help me to reply here or send me a private message.

My surgery was originally booked for March 4, 2015.  On Friday, I got a call that it had been rescheduled to December 16, 2014. As excited as I am, I was not prepared for the financial strain that comes with optifast.  I am looking for any leftover packages/boxes of optifast and would be extremely grateful if anyone could part with them. I start my liquid diet on November 25, and time is ticking for me gather the optifast.  Anything helps, thank you!!

Topic: Bariatric Clinic Appointments

I got an e-mail today from HRRH advising me of further clinic appointments. Clinic Nurse, Social Worker and Dietitian all December 15th/2014 9:00-11:00 all consecutively going to be a long morning. I live 2.5 hours from Toronto so I'm going to have to get up at like 5:00AM and then try to be nice lol wish me luck lol I called the clinic to ask if they had any cancellation appointments for these various professionals for November 28th/2014 as this is the date I go to see the surgeon for the first time but unfortunately there were none but she did put in on a cancellation list and it's still a month away so keeping my fingers crossed :-)

Topic: Surgeon's Appointment Finally Recieved

Well I finally received my first surgeon's appointment with HRRH surgeon Dr.Starr. I will gracing his office November 28th/2014. It took 8 weeks from my orientation date to get this appointment so for those of you that have been to HRRH orientation and they tell you that you should hear back in 2-4 weeks or even 4-6 weeks don't panic like I did if it takes longer. I guess they are really back logged right now due to summer vacation and patient overload. I have heard from another OH members post, sorry I don't remember the posters name that she contacted her MP and MPP regarding wait times. The response she got was that they are transferring 75 patients from HRRH to TWH to help ease the burden from HRRH. I know it's not ideal for those of us that have already started the process but it may help get things moving along a little quicker for those who are waiting for orientation dates or first surgeons appointments from now on. I think HRRH has a very large area that gets referred to them. I'm thinking maybe the Bariatric Registry or the government whoever deals with this may need to reevaluate that system of referral or put some sort of transfer protocol in place if HRRH gets more patients then they can handle comfortably. anyway just wanted to post so that people that are still waiting maybe get some hope or perspective or whatever they may need to keep them going. Hang in there everybody, we'll all get there eventually I hope :-)

Topic: HRRH System

Hi there, just decided to stop in and post today as I find it helps me. I posted a question on the Ontario Forum calling for all HRRH patients past, present, etc.. to answer this question. "You know that lovely 20 page Bariatric Surgery Patient Questionnaire we had to fill out. Well on the last page  Yep all the way back there on page 20 lol under the section CLINIC USE ONLY it says PATHWAY Yellow, Purple, Blue. Now I presume this to sort us into categories but does anybody know for sure. If it is to sort us into categories what do they mean and again I'm presuming it means readiness for surgery. I meant to ask at the orientation but I got distracted and forgot. Thank you"

I didn't really get any responses and me being the person I am needed an answer, so I called them. The receptionist was very polite with her double talk lol When I asked she said to me OH !! Well that section is really just for us. I replied okay I understand that but what does it mean. Her reply It is for the clinic nurses so they can triage your chart and decide which doctor you need to see. Okay so I was under the impression that all the doctors at HRRH are all qualified to do the same surgeries, so why wouldn't you be placed with the surgeon that has the time. One person that did reply hit the nail on the head I believe. She stated I think you got the run around with that answer. I think her surprised reaction to the question left her thinking crap somebody noticed our secret code for you can wait longer than the other person, maybe I'm being a little jaded in that thinking but I agree. I believe the codes at the bottom determine who needs to be seen first, like the triage system at your local Emergency department. If your having a heart attack you get seen first, if you have the sniffles you get seen last. I mean it does make sense, if someone has major life threatening co-morbidities (hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease) do I deserve to go before them NO !! but still it's hard to know that I may have the sniffles lol

Anyway so here I sit waiting my turn and trying unsuccessfully to be the good and patient young woman my mama taught me to be, all the while wondering if there is a way for me to upgrade from the sniffles. I've come to the conclusion unless I suddenly develop major co-morbidities the only thing I can do is continue to call the clinic and keep on there radar. Good-Luck to everyone else also waiting, I hope you get your call soon. :-)

Sorry I keep coming up with little things. I know they are very keen on making sure you are self aware, that you know what your issues are and have put in some effort to make changes, that you have done some research and aren't expecting the surgery to be some miracle. They want you to know what thesurgery entails risks, expectations, etc.. and that you understand what you are getting into with respect to diet and possible vitamin requirements post-op drpending on surgery being performed. Hopefully I'm not just repeating myself lol As long as you have read your package and know your stuff you should be okay. Good-luck :-)

Do you know who you are seeing??  I haven't done a tonne of research on the dietitian appointments. Mostly ob the different procedures, dietary requirements, vitamin requirements, risks, etc.. I do know however that they want you to bring a detailed food journal for at least the last 3 days. You need to be prepared to discuss previous weight loss efforts. You need to be able to describe in detail dietary guidelines post-op. You need to be prepared to discuss changes you have already made to show commitment to surgery and be prepared to discuss what you feel you still need to work on. Be sure to re-read your orientation handouts. Be sure to be honest with them or I'm sure they will call you out. I have heard that there is 1 dietitian (Denise) at can be particularly harsh but otherwise haven't heard a lot. I don't know if that was helpful at all Good-Luck let me know how it went :-)

Hi

im wondering after reading about how much research you did - if you know anything about what to expect from the dietician appointment ? I've heard they can be pretty harsh and actually fail you if they want

I have done some research but I'm meeting with the dietician next week and I'm feeling a bit anxious

any info would be helpful

thanks ))
