Hi-Let me intoduce myself!  I had Lap RNY on 9/21/2011. My highest weight ever was 279 (about 5 yrs ago), pre-op weight 224 and currently 208.  As far as my surgery, it was very uneventful and for that I am blessed and thankful.  I absolutely love my surgeon and his partner.  Their practice is incredible.  It has a huge area for support groups with chairs in all sizes, a demonstration kitchen, and a gym with their very own exercise physiologists.  I had the whole "what have I done" questions for the first two days post-op and haven't felt that way since.  My pain was pretty intense, condiering I have chronic back pain and live with pain daily.  I even asked to keep my PCA, IV pain medicine an extra day which my doctor was fine with.  My pain was a lot better on post-op day 3, which is the day I went home. I last took pain medicine on post op day #5 and I have to say the worst part for me was the bloating and gas.  The day after I had surgery I was 16 pounds heavier-crazy!  You might want to buy some gas-x chewables or the strips to have post-op, they help a little bit as does walking.  I am amazed on how great I have been feeling and while I am not at my full energy level, I am pretty close to it, my exercise physiologist contributes it to my level of fitness pre-op

Yesterday I had my first post-op appointment. I am down 16 pounds in 13 days. My doctor released me to exercise and to start pureed foods. I need to start Iron, my dietician told me to try crushing up a high potency (I was on it pre op due to anemia)and mixing it in applesauce. I am pretty sure it is going to taste horrible-which iron supplements do you all take or do you plan to take?  I have all my other vitamins, just don't have my post-op iron yet.

I am working my hardest to get enough water in but not nearly reaching my goal-it is easier to ge****er in during the full liquids though b/c you don't have to wait 15 min before and 1 hr after eating to drink.  I am also not reaching my protein goals but my dietician told me that during the first few weeks post-op I need to gradually build it up and it is getting easier to achieve on pureed.  I scrambled 1 egg this morning and was stuffed after eating about 2/3 of it.  My eyes are so much bigger than my stomach, it is mindboggling!  But, when your stomach goes from the size of a football to the size of your thumb it makes perfect sense.  My type 2 diabetes is gone-woohoo!  I also hope to forever leave behind high cholesterol, triglycerides, sleep apnea (and that horrible cpap) and GERD.

I look forward to getting to know you all, congrats on your decisions to have WLS and hopefully I can help with any questions since I already had my surgery.  Feel free to ask me anything, I am a nurse so I have heard it all  :)

Hi ya'll! My RNY is scheduled for next Monday (10/10). My original date was 7/7 (I'm seeing a weird pattern here _) but I had to reschedule and I'm really ready to just "get on with it"! That may not be the absolute best reaction to have but that's what's going through my head for the past week or so.I'm glad I stumbled on this group page and hope to learn more about all of your experiences and look forward to leaning on each of you sooner or later.
i totally understand that feeling!  i was supposed to be 10/11 then 10/25 and finally 11/01 .  you gett o a point where you want to get to the other side!  i was feeling very ready to move on and now that i have a little too much time to think about it, i am getting more nervous,.  the only thing i am nervous about is the actual surgery.  the rest i am kind of excited for.  feel free to remind me of that when i am moaning and grumbling about protein shakes....

Hi there!

My surgery is scheduled for November 8th.! YAY!!!!  and like all of you, I am excited, nervous, excited, scared, excited, anxious, excited, worried, excited.  The entire process has been a great experience so far, no set backs.  I start my Optifast after Thanksgiving (Canadian Thanksgiving) so my "last supper" will be turkey with all the fixins, lol.  My girlfriends are also taking me out for sushi on Wed to celebrate an early birthday (my birthday is 3 days after surgery).

So, I wait patiently and not so patiently for my day.  Can't wait to share this experience with all of you, who know exactly what I am going through.

wow!  it is amazing we don't lose weight just from jumping through all the hoops...lol
you are way ahead of the game by knowing what it is that you need and putting the support in place.  it is a good point for us to know what our tendencies are and try to head them off.  i can be obsessive too, it is a too edged sword!
great job on the weight loss,  i felt like losing some weight before the surgery helped me to refocus and kind of "step down" to the procedure.
maybe she is trying to keep her program with a super low failure rate and so she is extra picky about who she will operate on.

my dr requires a 4 week sklim milk only diet which i start today.  i think they figure if you can survive that you can survive the surgery.  my husband and sister are doing 1 week with me for support!
