I am so frustrated. I've been in the hospital since Thursday. I've spent the holidays here, :( I was supposed to have an endoscopy to fix a stricture yesterday but there was no room on the scheduled. I was scheduled for 8 AM and have now been pushed back to 1 PM. I'm still getting potassium replacement and TPN, I"ve been stuck about 20 times. I just ready to go HOME !!! Sorry to vent.

In a way. I'm able to eat a whopping two tablespoons of food now. :) My surgeon felt that since I'm able to keep some things down, I just have a very sensitve pouch. And basically this was the response: "We don't expect you to come anywhere near 60g of protein a day in the first six months. Keep trying to eat. Keep trying to exercise. But just relax and try not to focus on food."
Good advice in my book, since a food obsession is still a food obsession, and I'm not dying. So now I'm focusing on getting in my water and such, and at meal times, if I can only eat two spoons of chili, I just let that be, and I stopped counting protein grams.

it is tough!! i have been depressed off and on too, i have lost 3 pounds in 2.5 weeks, i am about to lose my mind!!!
if it keeps up, maybe see an endocrinologist, i had to go on thyroid meds last week and back on metformin, my body is freaking out.
so glad you dropped in!! it does help to see other people in the same boat!

i can understand your frustration!! sometimes i gag my way through the day too, i was evry overwhelmed by the before and after and with and wityhout restrictions on everything. i just had to write it down and make a schedule for eating etc and follow it. put the carafate on there frist and work the food around it etc. maybe getting it on paper will help you feel less stressed.
i have a med i take 2x a day that tastes like death and gives me horrible nausea for abotu 45 min where i have to lay down and breathe.
insult to injury indeed!!!

the shakes seem to be a necessity, i would fall short too without them, and i eat almost all protien and nothing else. i say at least 2/3 meal should be a protein source. 1 ounce of chicken has 7 grams so if you can eat 2 ounces per meal maybe.
also i do not mix a full shake. i drink 4 ounces milk with half the scoop in the morning and another in the evening. this gives me 17 grams at a time and 35 for the day. easier to drink that small of an amount and helps me get my goal.
have you tried unflavored protein powder? add to about anything, also there are protien "waters" kellogs has one.
finally if the shakes are tough i sometimes have a low sugar protein bar instead, it is the same calories and gives you 20-30 grams of protein, maybe you could tolerate those better?
hang in there!!! you could get a vanilla powder and add half a scoop to your milkl in the morning, when i did this in the past, io barely tasted it, that would give you a 18 gram boost!

I haven't read or posted for a while. I am 8 weeks post op and I am down about 32 lbs since pre-op. I am at a stall for several weeks. I was feeling depressed until I read some of the postings and found out that others are having the same problems. I guess that is just part of it. Sorry others are having the same problems, but it makes me feel better to know that I am not alone. Best of luck to all and I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.

I won't be on for a few days so I wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. My first band fill has not produced any restriction so I will have to be extra careful these next few days. Here's wishing you all a wonderful holiday season that is not all about the food!

I agree with the sugar free carnation instant breakfast recommendation, it is a great way to get in 15 grms of protein without having to deal with protein powder, plus you can add warm milk and make it a hot chocolate which can be a challenge with some protein powders as they can clump up....
I eat low fat cheese, a Greek yogurt, or grab some nuts in between my "meals" to boost up my protein over the day...
I have a question for those of you having the high protein count drinks. My dietician told me that when you ingest a shake or protein drink, your body can only absorb about 24-25 grams of protein at a time. Just like we can only absorb about 400-500mg of a calcium citrate supplement at a time so it would be pointless to swallow a 800-1000mg tab....
Any thoughts on this? Thanks!
