Fall 2011 Super Secret Clubhouse!
A little depression?
Ok, I know this is a support site and I don't want to bring anyone down so... If you are feeling a little low you probably should stop reading this one now!
HELP!! I don't feel right. When i try to explain about not feeling right I start to cry. I am really having trouble getting food into my belly. I saw my dietician 2 weeks ago and she got on me about my protien, I am getting about 30g a day. I'm 6 weeks out so I really should be able to eat a little more, shouldn't I? Also I can't seem to keep my fluids up very well. If water is room temp, forget about it... It makes my gut feel terrible. This morning my hubby brought me some banana and as soon as I swallowed some it hurt. I just don't know what to do anymore. I just feel like **** and I'm frustrated. Also, I hate complaining about this stuff! I feel like I'm the one that made the choice to have this damn surgery and nobody needs to hear me *****ing about my dumb belly hurting, but It does and I'm pretty fed up.. Any suggestions?

so sorry you are having a hard time, at about 3 weeks out i was so depressed, i was crying over nothing, i do know that the shift in hormones and body chemistry can do a number on you, i felt like a crazy person for now reason,.
the food changes are tough too. are you getting your vitamins in? also being dehydrated and if you arent able to eat alot, you could be having low blood sugar which can make you feel nauseous and depressed and generally wacky.
if you can do the shakes it is the fastest easiest way to get some in, made with milk it gives you 39grams. if there are certain foods or things that work better for you, then just go with it, i have eaten the same thing for days in a row. for some reason chicken and refired beans are my friend. maybe your pouch isnt ready for tougher textues? chew your food alot? not sure.
have you called your surgeon? my friend who had surgery a week after me had stomach aches and felt awful and wound up that she had a leak. so i would make sure that physically you are ok.
i hope you feel better soon, being depressed is no fun. i felt like having a temper tantrum.....lol i feel better now thank goodness!!

Kelly,
We ALL have gone through this and (are still) going through this sometimes. I feel the same way you do. If I could, I think I would not have had this surgery. However...
One thing I noticed is that unless I eat - make myself eat - slowly - sit back after a long chew, rest then chew another small bite...I also have a hard time and my pouch hurts. If I eat-provided I take longer to eat and don't give up-I start to feel better and have succeeded in not having to do the protein shakes anymore.
Try nuts. Try crunchy stuff. I do better with stuff that is crunchy than stuff that is soft-and meat is not a consistent friend to me right now (even chicken). I eat nuts and Golean Crunch cereal.
If you need to though - go back to the shakes-as Apple said it is the easiest way to get your protein in and you need that.
It does get better over time. I have finally given in to the fact that my tummy is never going to be the same. the benefit is that we will lose weight....and even though that is what I wanted I didn't anticipate it happening like this.
Time. It takes time. Try not to worry so much about it. Do what you can to get protein. I even started drinking diet soda again-which to me helps my tummy feel better. Someone else posted that on this group-and it is true-it helps me. I read about drinking it on the Mayo Hospital site and other than calcium depletion I couldn't see anything detrimental about it. I don't drink them like I used to - mostly because along with everything else-I can't!
Make sure, too, like Apple said to check with your doctor.
You better let us know when you are going through such a spell! That's what we are here for
