sleepy and pained.

today I have a dull pain in my left abdomen. It isn't all that concerning, but I can't help wonder why it is aching. I am also so sleepy all the time now. I slept Friday away and was still able to sleep Friday night. Yesterday I stayed up, but then today after sleeping all night I went back for a nap after I ate some breakfast.
I imagine eventually all will balance out and I will be happier than I have been in some time, but  these past few days-week...has been rough.
I wonder if I will ever enjoy food again. I feel right now like all I do is stuff it in because I have to. And I am not even really able to stuff it in. It seems to take so much effort just to get the 60grms of protein in every day. All I can think about is eating a Schlotzky's sandwich or some mexican food. I tried some nachos yesterday-figured protein in refried beans, protein in cheese, and protein in the chips even! It was good at first. But I just don't enjoy eating much any more. I did not know that was what i was doing to myself when I signed up.

you know what.. I had the same ache in my side...  and yes.. I was tired..  how many days/weeks are you out?

The first week.. I had same doubts..  but trust me... it does get easier.. your mind set will change...

I have found that if I dont have the right foods in the fridge...  (ie:  made ahead foods.. soups etc.).. I am a little lost... and get a little frustrated...

Once the "hospital" aura had worn off.. and my incisions were more healed and I was up and getting out (little by little)... I felt better..

you will enjoy food again... I am about 4-5 weeks out... and today.. I had melba rounds and bruschetta topping.. (my plan does allow melba rounds even on week 2)..  it was just a premade brushetta topping from my local grocery store that they make on site...  and it was amazing....

I think I am going to nuke them next time with cheese and add bruschetta ... pre wls surgery.. would never in my wildest dreams have done that... oh ya.. and had a pepperette...

I am totally satisfied...

Once you get to experiment a little.. and get more protein and nutrition in you... you will feel more energy..

It will get easier.. and once you start seeing some of the pounds come off... again.. you will experience the "mini-lift"

You CAN do this...

 Hey Meridon~
Mine was one week later than yours. Thanks for replying to my posts. And the encouragement!
What is a pepperette?
I find that I am lost, too-without prepared foods. I got some items to cook-but haven't done it. It seems like a waste to cook the few things I can eat. I want more variety.
My diet just added crackers and chicken-supposed to start tomorrow. I actually ate crackers this week with some peanut butter-I could not get a tablespoon down without them.

hmmmm  how do I explain a pepperette...  ummm... I don't know what you would call them in the US... like a pepperoni stick... but you get them at the deli..  and they are not pepperoni.. and softer than beef jerkey...

Here they are called pepperettes and they are made from pork or beef or turkey... and have about 8g of protein in them.. some fat.. not a lot.. and are a good go to for snack...

As you get farther out... your stomach will allow you to eat more... not a lot.. but you will gradually feel it..

honest... it does get way BETTER   :)

Can any of my Canadian friends give a better definition of a pepperette? lol

i have the same ache, after i had lap gall bladder surgery i had the same thing.  it is the incisions healing and pulling.

it will get better, i have the blues a little too.  there seems to be this waiting period after surgery where you arent really eating much food or have many choices and haven;t lost significant weight yet or gotten to go buy new clothes where it just kind of sucks, as you eat more kinds of foods and buy that first pair of smaller pants, it seems to get alot better!!

Good to know I am not alone. I cried today - thinking any relationship with food as I knew it is over. I have to force feed now. I am not sure I will ever be able to enjoy even a single bite.
I know a co-worker who had it over a year ago, she said food is a chore.
Another co-worker said she eats and enjoys. I hope I can at least enjoy it. I don't want to gain it back-ever!
You must have had to lose weight before surgery, right? Is that why you are down so much already? You go!!!

i didn't actually have to lose a certain amount or anything.  I started losing when i decided to finally go for the surgery.  the last month i had to go on a liquid diet so i lost some more then but i felt like it put me in the mindset for the surgery to start losing the weight an slowly backing off from food.

i had a conversation with my husband today about a similar thing.  i have stalled and only lost 10 since surgery actually lost and gained and lost.  It is driving me nuts.  i also switched ot purees and it is stressing me out a little to figure out what to eat and spend all day drinking etc.

i have been super depressed about not losing more and the last 2 days have been torture.  i told my husband that no matter who you are, there is some enjoyment in food.  i am in a place where there is nothing enjoyable about eating. also i have not lost significant weight since surgery so i cant enjoy that while i eat crappy food.  i am not enjoying anything right now.  major pity party today.

i am having less than 600 calories with shakes all water etc etc,  my dr actuallly said i was too good of a patient and getting too much protein, so to back off that and i should drop more.
cant win! lol

I completely understand what you mean. I am not dropping as fast as I feel I should either, and all without being able to enjoy the taste of anything. I am tired of the same tastes over and over.  I am sorry for what we are both going through. I keep being told by my collegues who had the same procedure that this too will pass.

Starting last night I have been throwing everything except liquids up. I called the doc's and they told me to drink meat tenderizer because the nurse thinks I did not chew the chicken I ate enough and have a little blockage. To me it seems that if I had a blockage I wouldn't be able to drink, either.

I think I ate too fast. I am not used to eating so slowly. Also, I get so hungry sometimes-which is a different kind of hungry-to where I start feeling sick and wonder if I even want to eat. This happened yesterday for lunch, and I actually felt better after I ate some chicken.

Well, I am impressed that you started to lose weight before hand. I was told to lose ten pounds and then gained it instead! I wanted to eat everything I could before I had it. Now all I can think about is cinammon muffins and schlotsky's sandwiches-only to know that I probably wouldn't like either if I had them.

The left abdominal pain/soreness is quite normal, our stomach sits majorly in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen, so it makes sense most of your pain is located there- just think of all of the pulling and manipulation that was done in there!

I have to say that I still find eating to be a chore and not much of an enjoyment anymore.  It makes me sad kinda.  I'll see a recipe or think of something good to make and then realize it's not worth all of the effort for just a few bites and I also don't want to be stuck eating the same food for a week.  I am sure it will eventually change when we can eat a little more in quantity and even more variety.

I am quite tired myself as well, I do my workouts at the gym but other than that, I am pretty tired and feel lazy.  I was anemic before my surgery and my doctor is checking my iron levels and blood count next week, which I am very interested in seeing the results.  I take iron 3-4 times a week b/c when I take it daily, it makes me so constipated!  I find myself craving a lot of spinach and nuts, and for the last few days, I have been craving a pork chop-which I will be trying for the first time tonight-hopefully I won't be disappointed by it....

Hang in there, I am glad we are all able to discuss all of the new feelings and experiences we are having.
