After surgery.... does anyone notice how many food commercials there are on tv?  I'm not hungry (struggling to get liquids in) BUT I can't help but notice that almost every other commercial contains food LOL --- maybe I didn't notice it as much when I watched it on the DVR

I haven't really noticed it, but I was so gassy and full feeling in the very early stages, it was hard to even get down water.  I can watch cooking shows and I am okay-I really haven't had any cravings-weird, I know.  When I watch a cooking show, I think about how I could make the dish healthier and boost its protein content.

I have an idea, every time you see a food commercial, take a drink of water :)

Hey there. How are you doing? I noticed you had surgery last week as I did. We are just three days apart. I laughed when I read your question about commercials. Just last night I told my sister I always loved pizza, but now I need therapy to withdrawal from it because I recorded one night this week, I saw 12 pizza ads in a three hour period of TV. Kinda makes me think I need to invest in a pizza joint if the general public watches as much TV as I have this past few days of recuperation. I am getting fluids down, but I am so over the protein shakes. I'm starting to gag at each meal time. I am also having a hard time getting the multivitamins in twice a day. Here is a personal question, how are your bowels? I have heard so many people talk about gas and constipation and I am the opposite. I wonder if I am doing something different, but I have to go every couple of hours, just a bit, but enough to be irritating. How is your pain level? what kind of diet are you on right and when do you advance? Look forward to comparing notes with you along this stretch!!!

Blessings

Hi,

I LOVE to share info... So are you RNY too? Doing very well BUT I am so over liquid - I get enough in but I am ready for puree. Need to clarify with my doctor tomorrow but I'm suppose to advance on week 2 but for some reason I keep thinking it's after I see her on Monday. Bowels are much better and moving after a few days of peri-colace. Pain is ZERO -- no oxycodone since Sunday (that stuff makes you constipated too). Went to the gym on Tuesday for a little 30 min cardio and I needed to see PEOPLE What do you advance?

Sending you friend request

Adrienne

David, I'm six days post-op.  My first week has been clear liquids only.  I start adding my protein shakes tomorrow.  However, before surgery, my dietitian suggested that I research protein shakes to find one that I really like.  Well, I found an unflavored one that you can add to just about anything (Crystal Light, pudding, etc).  It's called Unjury and only available online.  I ordered the sample pack and tried all of their flavors.  You may want to check into it too.  Their website is www.unjury.com.  I received my order in only 2 days.

Regarding BMs, my situation seems pretty similar to yours.  I don't have gas or constipation, but I do have a loose stool. I must say, it's pretty similar to when my kids were babies...loose, odd color, odd smell.  What's different is that I go in small amounts.  LOL However, considering the amount we're digesting, I understand that to be normal.

Oddly, I never had pain.  I did take some Tylenol once but that was because of a headache.

As far as my diet, as I mentioned above, I've been on a clear liquid only diet since I got home...1 ounce every 15 minutes. I bounce between Crystal Light, broth, black coffee (decaf) and jello.  I get to add protein to my diet as of tomorrow.  As such, I'll be hitting the protein powders, sugar free pudding, fat free milk, sugar free yogurt and non-cream pureed soups.

I've been getting out and walking every day, but I must say, that I need a nap by mid-afternoon.  How is your energy level?  Do you feel tired or sluggish?

Laura

It's so funny to read this post as I just said the same thing to my kids.  It seems that the tv is filled with food.  Between commercials and all of the eating that the actors seem to do, food is everywhere.  I find that I'm looking away when I see it.
