Fall 2011 Super Secret Clubhouse!
Please post stats
It was going quite well. I lost 11 pounds in the first week. Then I started running a fever and ended up hospitalized. I had a gastrointestinal viral infection which was exacerbated by the liquid diet. I was in the hospital being pumped full of liquids and put on a solid diet. It got a little better when solids were introduced. I couldn't do the diet or exercise. They only released me if I promised to get plenty of fluids and eat nutritionally. Now I am waiting to hear back from the doctor. They may cancel my surgery now.
Pink!
I am having the VSG on Monday, October 17th. While it has been a 'long time coming' it seems kind of surreal to me. I have desired to have surgery for the last 7 years. Finally, I had to do what I had to do and pay for it out of pocket. I actually found the surgery through OH and have heard great reviews. The company I have used is Ready 4 a Change. I couldn't have been happier. I have primarily worked with the Patient Coordinator Alma. She's absolutely fantastic! Although this is a different route than most people have gone through, I have been through the denial letters twice over the years and have talked to more than four different surgeons, hoping and praying that insurance would take care of it. While I had no such luck, I am continuing to pray that things will go better in the upcoming weeks. It is a HUGE change and a chance of a lifetime. I was determined to take back my life instead of being a victim. I have seen too many of my own family members die because of this disease and I refused to be one of them! Congrats to all of my peers as we do this journey together. We have just added wonderful years to our lives!
Congrats on taking this step, sound sliek your determination will serve you well on this journey!!

My surgery date is Monday, Oct. 24 also. I'm very excited.
Thanks so much for starting this group, it is so encouraging to read through everyone's notes and see us supporting each other. I live two hours away from a support group so this will be my primary support rather than being able to go to face-to-face groups. I've been spending time reading things from these posts to the book "Fat No More."

Hello everyone...I had my surgery in August, although I'm not quite "fall" I'd love a supportive group to be able to post to...so with your permission I'd like to crash the group?
I had my first WLS in April 2008 (LapBand) and over the past three years had a lot of complications and had revision surgery. I was 283 at my pre-op appointment (had only two days of full liquids) and am down to 234.
I just got cleared for FULL exercise (which is my biggest foe) this past week. My revision was open and it seems my body didn't like the sutures - they kept coming out/undone...so took two months to heal...hasn't been fun, but it has been worth it.
I'm the mother of two beautiful girls and am lucky to have married my soul mate and best friend. For the first time in my life I have support at home. I'm looking forward to making new friends here and having a place to share some up and downs during this Weight Loss Journey...

Hey ya'll! Well it's OVER!! WAHOO! I had my RNY last Monday, Oct. 10. And I've been home since Wednesday afternoon. Still feeling a little run down but I'm pretty surprised at how well I'm doing. I've been able (for the most part) to get all 3 8 oz. protein shakes/drinks down plus one or two "snacks" for the last couple of days. I have to set my alarm to remind myself that it's time to eat so that is REALLY strange! Getting in only about 20-25 oz. of other fluids so I need to work on that.
I did have a kind of rough few hours about 24 hrs after the surgery. I was overly tired, weak, dizzy, naseous (that IV pain med is killer!) so I broke down and cried for about 5 minutes. It actually helped and having my fiance there at the hospital basically the whole time was really comforting.
Note to those of you getting ready to have your surgery next....plan to have someone there to give you a light massage or rub down. That gas that gets trapped in your body is really uncomfortable but I found just having my fiance rub on my back, chest, legs was really soothing. Of course, the walking the hallways really works wonders as well so make sure you get up every 2-4 hours and at least walk a little.
Thanks for all your good wishes, thougths, and prayers! I believe they helped and will continue to strengthen me. And thanks to Apple-Jax for starting this group!
