 Hi
I am kinda new to this site. I haent posted util today :) My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 19th. I am very excited. I am having RNY. I thought everything was moving so slow and now it seems to be zooming.
A little about me... I am short..only 4'9 and walk on crutches due to polio as a child. I weigh 198 right now. I use to be smaller when I was a teen but that was many years ago. I am so glad I found this website of people like me!!!

Hi , I'm Melanie and pretty new to the site.  I had my initial appointment on August 23, and my final on October 3.  My surgery is scheduled for Nov 2, 2011 pending insurance approval.  I've been researching and wanting the surgery for years and have finally gone for it.  My heaviest has been 278lbs and am currently at 264lbs.  I'm looking for encouragement and support, recipes, helpful hints, etc.

welcome, welcome, everyone!

Apple- My diet was clears starting on post-op day #3 and then was full liquids until my 2 week post-op visit.  Now I am on pureed foods.  It is so bizarre how full I feel on such a small amount of food!  I have been having a scrambled egg every morning and I am absolutely stuffed after eating about 3/4 of it!

some things I am eating:

Low fat ricotta cheese
Refried beans
Tuna fish blended with a tiny bit of low fat mayo
yogurt (dannon light & fit, activia light, or greek)
Blended soups and chili
a few baby foods- mostly just a few bites of the veggie ones along with my protein
applesauce
sugar free carnation instant breakfast mixed with skim milk (snack)
protein shakes (snack) with a 1/4 banana blended in
mashed potatoes with protein powder mixed in
shredded turkey breast in fat free gravy-I chewed forever and it was fine.
baked tilapia
hummus
turkey meatballs  (mash up)
sugar free pudding made with skim milk
cream of wheat with protein powder (good iron)

I havent tired a few of these things yet (meatballs, tilapia, hummus, chili) but everything on this list was okayed by my dietician.  I am trying to stay away from eating too many starchy foods (i have only had mashed potatoes 2x) and if i do eat them, i add protein powder.  I use Nectar Medical Unflavored for savory foods and I have the Nectar Chocolate Truffle for protein shakes.

My surgeon wrote his own bariatric cookbook that he gives to his patients and I also have 2 others, when I start trying those recipes, I'll share them with you all...

Hope this helps!

My liquid diet is a little different( i have to drink 4 shakes a day and 6 food choices ex unsweetened applesauce and yogurt, and i can have some veggies)  I thought for sure i would struggle and be hungry.  But im on day 3 and im finding it hard to do the 4 shakes and 6 food choices.  I cant get it all in yet.  Day 1 i got 3 shakes and 2 food choices.  Day 2 i got 3 shakes and 4 food choices.  I hoping today i can get the 4 shakes and try to get the 6 food choices, i cant believe im having such a hard time eating this.  Its not that i dont like the taste it just makes me so full and i feel so bloated and stuffed all day.  I have to force myself to go to the next shake, lol!  Who would have thought that i would be complaining about having to eat too much pre op. Im guessing my body will get more used to the shakes and i will be able to eat what they want but for now im just trying real hard to meet the diet requirements. How are you doing on your liquid diet?  Hope you are well!  12 days till surgery WOO HOO!!
