I'm having Lap RNY on November 7, 2011. No Thanksgiving for me :( Welllll maybe mashed potatoes if I'm lucky lol. I am sooo excited but EXTREMELY nervous and scared. I'm on an emotional rollercoaster right now. Never had anesthesia or surgery. My highest weight was 368, my current weight after starting the low fat diet in preparation for my surgery to shrink my liver is 339 and still losing :) My goal weight is set at 150 by my surgeon but I am 5'9" and think that might be too small for me - we shall see when I get to that point.

I am scheduled for a RNY on 10/17, and I am super excited.  I go for my Preop on Thursday, I will teach for a week, and then I am off for two.  I am glad that I have this week off from school for fall break to help me get everything in line.    I have family coming to help take care of me and my daughter.  I am so excited!!!!

My history:  I was in a bad abusive relationship about 6 years ago where he was controlling, I was depressed, and I gained a lot of weight.   I also gained a WONDERFUL child, but a lot more weight with that.  After the break up  I worked out every day, did a low carb diet, and worked with a personal trainer three times a week.  Te only time I stepped on a scale I was 280, but that was after I had worked out for 6 mths, so who knows my highest weight.  With the hard work I lost 70lbs, and stalled.  Life changes happened, the market crashed and working in Mortgages became extremely stressful.  I got laid off, started school, and life took over.  I got my teaching license and began working right out of college (thank God).  But over the last 4 years I have gained all the weight back and some.   I am so tired of the Yo-yo dieting and I am ready for a tool that will help me reach my goal and help me maintain.

Have I mentioned I am excited?

you seem kind of excited......
sounds like you are doing somethning for yourself that is much deserved!
i am glad you will have help. i am going ti stay with my sister for a week, if i stay at home i will keep looking at my laundry and feeling like i need to do things and nagging my husband about giving my son a bath etc, this way they can sit in their undies and stink like a cat box and i wont have to know about it......lol  i have been overweight my whole life and yo yo dieted from age 11.  i am soooo done!  i never had hope before that it would really work and i think i gave it half hearted effort in recent years, it all seemed like a tiny drop in the bucket.  i am looking forward tot eh initial weight loss to give me a nice morale boost to keep going.  if i could hvae only lost all the weight of the past 20 years in a straight line i would have lost a whole football team!

Hi yall, I am Jennifer and I am from Anchorage Alaska. I was pretty much raised here, brr, I know. I am schedueled for Gastric Sleeve Oct, 25, 2011. I am flyin to California on Oct 23, 2011 with my Dad and Step Mom.  You might ask why I am flying down, well lets just say my insurance won't even budge to pay for surgery.

I am scared and nervous at the time. I do work nights, I love working nights, soon I will have to stop my coffee.

I started my Pre-Op at 286 lbs, now I am down to about 250-260 lbs, I sure do get cravings once a week. I need to get back on track.. I feel healthier and happy.

Welcome to the newest members :)

When I first went for my initial surgery consult, I wanted a Lap Band.  My doctor told me to think about bypass b/c it would rid me of my type 2 diabetes, pcos and gerd-for some reason I was just scared of the bypass.  I then decided I wanted the sleeve but my insurance would not approve it b/c my BMI was not 50 or higher.  So, I then I decided to really research RNY-I am so glad I did it.  I only felt bad the first 2-3 days and since then it has been smooth sailing.  I have tolerated every single food I have tried from my prescribed diet.    I was a big baby in the hospital and was scared to go home, and once I got home, I felt so much better.  I think your surgery choice is very personal, so I want you all to know, I will support each of you on whichever surgical path you choose :)

I started vitamins Monday and have tolerated them well.  The Bariatric Advantage Calcium Chews in caramel are yummy.

Apple- As far as my type 2 diabetes, they checked my blood sugar in the hospital 3-4 times a day (can't remember exactly, was pretty groggy) and they were always normal, 75, 87, 100, 90, etc. so I was discharged off my Metformin.  I had a few days when I felt shaky at home and checked my sugar and it was fine, not low, a little higher than the values in the hospital though b/c I was actually eating.  My doctor told me that some people do still take their Metformin (or whatever drug they were taking for dm pre-op)after surgery, and taper off of it later.  I guess it depends on the severity of the diabetes.  My hemoglobin a1c was never higher than 7.0 and I am anxious to see what my value will be on my 3 month post-op labs.  I will definitely keep you posted though.

I'll check in with you all later!
