Greetings,
I'm all about sharing information (to those that "get it" or are at least open-minded enough to hear you out). My RNY is scheduled for October 6 -- YES 3 days away and I am super excited. Not nervous YET but I am just overfilled with emotions. I've lost 58 lbs since December (weigh****chers and exercise) and am already thrilled with that accomplishment - so look out after surgery . I am extremely confident and independent so if you're not on board with the decisions I make than get out of my way (family included). The process was very easy for me except a tough doctor (will get to that). I had my first visit with Dr. Steele (and yes that name suits her) on April 4, 2011 and here I am almost exactly 6 months later having surgery. BCBS required 3 months supervised diet and John's Hopkins Bayview program required support group & nutrition and I didn't need any other testing (whew!!). Had a little issue when I wanted to switch to VSG and insurance wouldn't approve it as a 1 stage procedure so went back to bypass and then that's when Dr. Steele put the brakes on -- had to "convince" her that I understood what I was getting into. Only took a letter and a nutrition consult but she kept me dangling for 4 entire days OMG!!!
Now with all that said, I do have fears. Mainly about becoming obsessed. I can be so structured that it can become a fault. So the nutritionist and personal trainer are musts for me -- they keep me balanced so that I don't overdo it.
Okay - enough already. I will be posting every step of the way hoping that my journey may be useful information for others. BTW -- if anyone has a question, just ask and I'll do my best to answer

wow! it is amazing we don't lose weight just from jumping through all the hoops...lol
you are way ahead of the game by knowing what it is that you need and putting the support in place. it is a good point for us to know what our tendencies are and try to head them off. i can be obsessive too, it is a too edged sword!
great job on the weight loss, i felt like losing some weight before the surgery helped me to refocus and kind of "step down" to the procedure.
maybe she is trying to keep her program with a super low failure rate and so she is extra picky about who she will operate on.
my dr requires a 4 week sklim milk only diet which i start today. i think they figure if you can survive that you can survive the surgery. my husband and sister are doing 1 week with me for support!
