I am making split pea soup tomorrow for lunch all next week.
I had a reuben rollup that was pretty good. We annually make homemade sauerkraut as one of our German family traditions. We took out a quart jar of the stuff and cooked it. While that was cooking, I took some lettuce leaves, spread some Swiss Laughing Cow cheese wedges on it, threw on some tamed jalapeno slices (don't even ask me how that fits with a reuben theme), added a few slices of turkey pastrami, and then covered it with the kraut. I left off the thousand island dressing, but the spread cheese made it taste pretty good.
I was stuffed all day with good foods I've been giving a try. I picked up a few old "Cooking Light" annual cookbooks and I'm planning some new recipies. I'll share anything that I find that might be interesting to our members.
It is so good to feel "back on track".
BUT....One day at a time...

Regain of 20 pounds has thrown me for a loop - will not let this get the best of me - what am I doing about it?

We better get started planning that virtual party. We may have a few of you who may be able to drop at least 5 pounds by the end of the month of January.
Anyone who hits that goal gets a virtual helium balloon in their honor to celebrate victory. We are going to need some other volunteers to bring some other goodies and such. Be creative on what you can bring.
Today, it's Satuday, January 2nd. We can meet on Sunday, January 31st for the big party. Anyone who puts in a sincere effort during the entire month and doesn't happen to be able to lose that first 5 pounds, we can invite then anyway....shhhh...don't tell them or they may not work as hard. So peddle your incline bike, walk off your tail, plan your meals, buy good foods, check back here at our site often for motivation, or just do what ever it is that makes you successful.

Of course you are welcome here. The rules are simple. You have to just do your best at getting 10 or more pounds off and you have to get supported when you do something good (or support someone else when they do something good). I'm looking to have many different facilitators who all help out cooperatively to offer ideas and support. Oh...one other goal is to try to keep that weight off all through 2010 and into 2011
I'm sorry to hear of your recent health problems, but hope that you are looking ahead to 2010 with some great success and times.

Gayle,
My wife got me turned on to hot tea. I never would have guessed that in a 100 years. While that did take my fluid intake up there a bit, I want to drink some plain water later on this evening. I've made it past my danger zone so far today and still going strong. For some reason I can do very well in a day, but come around 5-6 pm and things seem to fall apart. I'm not going to let that happen anymore. I like to see that you are following up that good intention with some quality exercise. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic on the run. That is a great way to start the day. Keep that up and you will get there.
I read your message about 1 1/2 hours ago. I dropped what I was doing and headed out for a walk. I don't know where you are in the country, but sure is cold here in Kansas. I had a wonderful walk and put in 6 units toward my January goal of 155 units. I just call each unit a 5 minute segment (or 12 units per hour). Then when I got back I put in another 4 units of hard shoveling snow. I am 10 units toward my goal in less than an hour. I had been planning to walk today, but it was before dark so that way I didn't have to do the treadmill.
Anyway, thanks for the inspriation to get off and running...so to speak. I think you can see those 180's once again by the end of the month.

P.S. Just as a reminder for anyone just observing; it is not necessary to give your weight unless you want to. You can just keep us informed with an occasional update of how may pounds you go down since the start of 2010.

5'8 and lowest weight last year was 187. I was 191 in October before my hernia repair and TT. I know some of the weight gain is swelling but not all of it.
This is a very good idea. I hope a lap bander will be welcome.
I had to have an unfill recently due to health problems. Can't get a refill until Spring. I have gained about 15 pounds and need to get at least 10 of that off before I get a fill.
Thanks for starting this. I need to be accountable to someone other than the lady in the mirror!
My 1st positive was breakfast. I pampered Christine with a homemade frittata. I pan fried (using cooking spray) mushrooms, onions, & green peppers. I put these in a pie pan and then covered with egg whites. I topped that off with bacon bits (Hormel) , tamed jalapenos, and fat free cheese. I baked it and then put it under the broiler to make the cheese all bubbly. All of that good eating for under 200 calories. That also included 29 grams of protein. I think I'm going to like this...
