Good job on the workout...keep that up.

I also commend you for journaling. I have found that to be the single tool that never fails me. I am determined to finish my journals this year in 2010. In 2009 I would start a journal and then just throw in the towel after about 4-5 pm. I am feeling really very good about where this year is starting.

As far as calories go I'm focusing in on between 1400-1500 as a male. I know that is actually pretty low and I take the chance of lowering my metabolism. I'm also trying to walk off 200 calories a day in exercise. That would bring my net cals down to 1200-1300. I'm also planning a small reward at the end of each week of 1000 cal splurge when I go out to dinner with my dear wife. I am going to limit it to once a week or even less.

I hope this helps....we all want to see you get to where you want to go.

I absolutely LOVE sweet potato fries!!!  You can change the flavor by adding powder ranch dressing, or onion powders or other spices you may like.  Happy experimenting.

Gayle,

I discovered these little gems at WalMart about 6 months ago. They are a staple food in my ham or turkey rollups. I use the Laughing Cow wedges instead of cream cheese for the filling.

Anyway, tamed jalapenos are just jalapenos with most of the heat taken out. I can pop them like pickles and just love the flavor. If you have any friends *****ALLY like regular jalapenos you may want to be a closet jalapeno eater around him or her. They would probably call us whimps for selling out. My kids were very skeptical at first, but as each one tried them, they liked them and now I go through a jar or two each week. You should find them there in the pickle section of Wally World.

Great...now I have images of miniature cowboys riding around in a pen trying to tame those wild jalapenos......yeeeeeee haaaaaaa.....giddy up....ride em cowboy.......ahhhh.......a tamed jalapeno.

In the cold weather of Texas, ok well not as cold as some of you but it is all relative....I am in love with 15 bean soup with ham added; it freezes well and makes a great quick grab lunch that is portion controlled.

Lol, tamed jalapenos...all an illusion!

Well it is Sunday here but I did start yesterday by going to the store to stock up the kitchen with good choices for the month.  This was after spending a couple of hours outdoor hiking the beautiful hill country of Texas!  (don't tell anyone how sore I am)

I am cooking today so the freezer will be stocked with quick easy to grab portion controlled protien based meals ~~ a neccessity since work will keep me extra busy over the next two weeks.  What I find is when I am busy I tend to grab those carb items to give me that false sense of energy but makes weight loss difficult.

So here is to us and a healthy, happy New Year!

Just got back from the gym, did 35 minutes on the stair master, and then had to quit...I have arthritis in my hip and today it is winning a little more than usual.  Time to go see the doc again to get a shot of cortisone, tamed it for almost a year so I think it is worth it.

I am planning on a walk later on today, and then checking out my  new channel called fit TV...they seem to have some good workouts there and since I already pay for that channel, there is no added cost.

Mary,

My wife, Christine, was checking things out here and saw your post. She has talked several times about how she would like to make those sweet potato fries. I'm shopping on Monday and have a strict request to remember the sweet potatoes. That just sounds so tasty. I'll let you know what kind of a vote they get, but I'm guessing you will get two thumbs up from both of us.

Today I'm getting a bit adventuresome and I've developed a sort of spicy coleslaw. I have added cucumbers, carrots, green onions, green peppers. I then used some red wine vinegar along with some cooking wine (just an ounce), some light Miracle Whip, horseradish, salt, honey mustard. I've been hungry for some slaw lately. That sure was good and very filling.

Split pea soup sounds good...yum.

I had a reuben rollup that was pretty good. We annually make homemade sauerkraut as one of our German family traditions. We took out a quart jar of the stuff and cooked it. While that was cooking, I took some lettuce leaves, spread some Swiss Laughing Cow cheese wedges on it, threw on some tamed jalapeno slices (don't even ask me how that fits with a reuben theme), added a few slices of turkey pastrami, and then covered it with the kraut. I left off the thousand island dressing, but the spread cheese made it taste pretty good.

I was stuffed all day with good foods I've been giving a try. I picked up a few old "Cooking Light" annual cookbooks and I'm planning some new recipies. I'll share anything that I find that might be interesting to our members.

It is so good to feel "back on track".

BUT....One day at a time...
