One of the goals of this group is to help each other see the good things each of us do to stay or get back on track...I think it would be great if each of us post a good habit they follow, you might say to yourself "hey everyone already knows that one" but truth is we all forget some of the "right" things that were expected in the beginning, but slipped our minds as time goes on...

Here's mine :

Wait 30 minutes BEFORE & after you eat, to drink ( I have been sliding the before part for a couple of years now )

Talk to me & bring on the good habits...

Alesia. i am there with you I too don't have that early days out feeling. Seems like the more I add the worst I feel and get. Going back to basics is so important, and making sure you are getting in your protein is equally important. Hae you tried the Kaye Bailey Pouch test, it is good for getting you back on track also.

I am joining you in getting clean again, I can feel euphoria too....

I'm still here doing the best I can to get back to 219; however, it appears to me that my body is enjoying playing close to 240 at this point. I will admit that I'm not eating the best. My hectic schedule is killing my eating plan. So far I have been eating on the go for the past few weeks. Don't give up hope on me just yet. I'm still exercising my tail off each morning and I found my way back to the gym at least one evening a week. My body is beginning to take on a shape. I was admit the flapping things and hanging breast are beginning to look a little better or it just maybe the other curves are forming drawing attention away from those areas.

Topic: Do you remember the "early" days out?

I've been posting lately that I am struggling to get back to that "early" days surgery feeling, you know the go-getter motivation to do whatever it takes to make this surgery work, and the euphoria of stepping on the scale and seeing a loss...

Last night I started thinking back, I don't still have the worksheet my Nut gave me about quantities per meal/snacks ( it also listed all the low carb veggies ), wish I had kept it, cuz I'd like to refer back to it now...Anyway, the early plan from my doc was 2 weeks straight liquids, 3 weeks pureed, 4-6 weeks soft foods and by about the 3rd month I was able to "eat" as long as I remember to REALLY chew well, last was at about 6 months when I could add back in carbs of the high fiber variety & eat anything my pouchie would handle...Of course this whole program was built on the concept of low fat, no/low sugar, etc...

Well, today, I'm feeling really on track...I think I can make it back part of the way to that early feeling...I'm not talking all liquids or eating puree again, but I feel like I can commit to the basic tenents of those early days ...I changed my eating habits when I got to maintenance, I had too in order to stop the weight loss process, so said my nut, try : adding back full fat cheeses & real butter, increasing my allowable real sugar to about 15grams a serving ( instead of 5 or less ), allowing more bready type carbs into may diet...It all worked great to finally stop the loss, but now I realize the long term reprocussion was that it sabataged my thinking, because my nut said to do these things in MODERATION...Now over time my idea of moderation seems to expanded...

Is anyone else out there feeling this too ...

So I'm starting a modified basics plan today...Back to smaller servings - protein shake for breakfast, 2-3 oz serving of lower fat meat and a spoon of lower carb veggies for other 2 meals, snacks will be lowfat choices too (like string cheese or a slice of lunchmeat )...I'm being realistic and know that I may not see immediate results from following this type of plan, but in the long haul I know I will AND I know it will get me back to my clean living and eating goal...

I invite all of you looking in to re-evaluate what you did to lose and what you are doing now that has put a kink in the process...Join me in getting clean again, euphoria is just around the corner, I can feel it ...

Continue success to all...I look forward to hearing from you on your new commitments...

I'm coming clean too. I partied way too hard as well. Three of us couples went out to dinner at the nicest restaurant around. (and actually pretty good for little ole Kansas). We started out with mixed drinks and had a few appetizers. Then we started drinking fine French and Italian wines, eating raw oysters, shared main courses of filet mignon and prime rib and then topped it all off with a beautiful piece of cheesecake....wowwww.

Now that I've had surgery, I do have to say that I've found that when I want to drink, I want to JUST drink. I'm not a big fan of eating and drinking at the same time. Even though we did that, the alcohol really did a beautiful job of enhancing the flavor of this fabulous food. I purposely limit myself to drinking about 2 times a month. Christine and I have never spent over $50-60 for a dinner for two in our entire life. The bill came to over $200 for the evening for just the two of us and I would not have traded it for anything. What a memorable evening. I do not need to go to excess like that every week or month, but a nice splurge like that was simply wonderful. Since the other two guys are in law enforcement, I offered to have my oldest kids come to the restaurant to cart us home...what a good example we were...well kinda.

Today I'm back to tuna and cabbage...my  weight loss staples.

Think positive...

JTR,

I feel your pain...Maintenance is definately where the real work begins...I was watching a show yesterday, on The Discovery Channel about just this matter...The tool goes a long way toward getting us to or close to our weightloss goal during the first 1-2 yrs, but if you don't learn to rethink your food habits while the honeymoon phase is on you can truly beat out the goal of the tool by sliding back into those bad habits that got you fat in the first place (I'm sorry to say I personally know too many people who have regained almost all they lost from having surgery)...ALL of us have lost and gained hundreds of pounds over the course of our lifetimes ( the yo-yo effect ), the trick now is to use what we've learned and our surgical tool to keep the bounce of the yo-yo low, this is maintenance...I know I have bounced up more on the yo-yo string than I ever wanted to again and now I'm rolling it up and cutting the string short...I've got to take control again now before it gets out of control again...Thats why I'm here, you too I would guess...

You CAN do it...If your are not journaling your food, START now!  If you are not getting in at least a couple days of exercise a week, START now!  If you are already doing both these things, its time to look hard at what your choices are and make changes & adjustments...Keep checking in, support from any and all sources is a good thing...

You've done a great job getting to this point, now you just have to make the good things a permanent habit...

OK,

I'm here, owning up and taking responsibility...Partied way to hard at our annual HOG chapter Valentines party on Saturday night, was down a pound for the week before the Limoncello/jello shooter haze set in, now , up one...I'm not making progress here...Yes, John, I know this is a "in it for the long haul" situation, but still makes me want to smack myself...Just cannot get ahold of that early surgery motivation that made it so easy to push away the bad choices...

Back to cleaning up my act...Have a full week of good meals already planned and shopped for & exercise on the schedule for M,W,&F guarenteed, will try to work in a couple more days too...
