calories per day
I think this really differs depending on the person. Age, exercise level, how long one was obese, etc. all play a part. Have you tried tracking your calorie intake and seeing at what point you start or stop losing? I find that the most helpful. I know what I am willing to do in terms of exercise--nothing heavy duty--so I can't eat as many calories.
And sad to say, as we get older, we need even fewer:(

Here is my perspective that I'm guessing a couple of you might relate to. For the first 2 1/2 years post-op (after the intital first 12 months where I was very faithful) I have pretended to stay in at 1200 calories and around 100 grams of protein. I would be very good at tracking my food for the first two meals and then blow it out of the water for the last 1/3 of the day.
I'm guessing that I was up around 2000 cals on average...leading to my gain. I'm working hard at keeping my calorie intake at 14-1500 for the day and trying to be faithful with my journaling. So far it has worked, but I may back it down as time goes on so long as I don't find myslef craving food too much.
As a man I know that they normally say a couple hundred less for the ladies. I also agree that exercise in a key factor and I may reward myself with an extra treat or 100 calories on days that I get out and walk.
Best wishes.
