The scale can be your friend

Yes I know that people say STAY AWAY from the SCALE, I will say use the scale to help you stay accountable.  Yes your weight is going to fluctuate from day to day, but think back, how did you become morbidly obese in the first place.....for me it was because I did not check in with MYSELF.  I get on the scale every morning to see where I am at, I realize +/- 3 pounds is not that big of a deal, but if I am up more than 3 then that is a message to me to get my butt in gear and change some things up.  If I am down that is my signal that what I am doing is working and to keep it up.

Yes the scale can be your friend if you do not obsess about what it says, it is just another tool in your weight loss journey.

Gayle,

I like the scale too. I have the two offical weigh-ins of the week. For this group I do a Friday weigh-in and then for several months Christine and I have been doing a Monday morning weigh-in that we record in a log here at home. It is amazing how having to face the scale keeps you so focused.

I'll admit that I weigh every morning, but I don't let that number rattle me either. It is just a number that has normal fluctuations and gives me an idea of a trend. When I get back below my 200 pound level my objective it so get to 197 and then just stay under 200 pounds and bounce around down there.

So....I agree....it is better to weigh each day than to stay away.

I would have to agree with Gayle & John about the scale! We need to embrace it and make it our friend. It can work for us not against us if we use it in the right way! I too weigh myself at least 2 to 3 times a week. It's a great measuring stick. And isn't funny.... when the numbers started going up I found myself shying away from the scale. I went a whole month without stepping on the scale. But no more! It's back on track for me and the first step is admitting I need help. It's time to get back on that scale that doesn't lie. While it's painful at first I know the scale and I will become good friends again.

Cheers,
Lisa

I too agree the scale is necessary, no necessarily what I would quantify as a friend, but definately a useful acquantence (?sp)...Have been a faithful weigher since the beginning, I totally agree with our HuskerFan, I know that avoiding the scale and distorted body image played a big factor in how I got to be a BIG person...Daily weigh-ins for me, even on vacations...

I couldn't agree more.  When I stop weighing regularly, I know I am in trouble.
