Winter weight

I am so frustrated with the horrible winter weather this year.  We have so much snow it is in 5 and 6 feet piles.  And it is still snowing.  And blowing.  And freezing (I wi**** were just freezing!  Wind chills of negative 40 this morning.)  It makes me so trapped feeling.  I hate getting out in it (guess why), so only go out to get to work and home.  I am not one who likes being stuck at home at the best of times.  Even with surgery, I can only take two weeks of being home bound.

It makes not grazing very difficult.  I try to keep myself busy but it really is difficult to stay motivated when one's mood is so foul.  I've even started looking for work in southern states!

I know what to do, so this is more just a whine than anything else.

No more "winter wonderland" songs for me--ever!

I have a sweater and a lace shawl going!  And I've found a very complex shawl to being next.   Tonight it is going to be negative 27 before the wind chill :(

Something that I have recently noticed is that if I read a book (I like the mystery/suspense authors like  Michael Connolly, Philip Margolin, Harlan Coben . . .) it is hard to munch & graze while I am reading.  I need to hold the book with one hand and turn the pages with the other, so it keeps my hands occupied.

I haven't intentionally used this as a way not to graze, but often I will sit down on the couch with dinner after work & start reading.  Next thing I know, it has been an hour or so and I haven't touched my dinner.  Just thought I'd pass along--maybe it will help the grazing while you are stuck inside  due to bad weather.

I find that if I am in physical proximity to the kitchen or dining area (which is where a lot of my pantry stuff is located) I am more tempted to snack and graze. The living room is more of an open area concept with the kitchen/dining area so while I'm watching TV it is a real temptation.  My home office and computer is in a room in the back of the house so whenever I'm in there working or surfing the Net, I don't "see" the food and don't feel the need to eat.

I live in snow county also and am having a bit of cabin fever.  Can't wait for spring!!

So many days I come home, feed the cat and dog, take care of minimal chores, and gather up my books/knitting/projects/computer and go to bed.  I have an electric blanket that keeps me warm.  And it keeps me out of the kitchen--mostly.  The "boys"--my cat and dog--snuggle up with me and I try not to focus on the cold, lack of sunlight, worry about pipes freezing, etc.

I am also checking out my professions job posting sites--I gotta move!  In a moment of pique, I even applied for a job in Saudi Arabia.  No chance of snow there!

hi again, Saly :)
instead of moving to Saudi Arabia, lol, maybe you could invest in a wii fit, with a balancing board.   we bought one for the family for x mas, and it is soo much fun. You exercise without the feeling of ' aaah, exercise' if you know what I mean?
there were times I did 2 hours on it, and was surprised afterwords how *I* would do 2 hours of anything physical!!!!
I usually start up with something that burns calories, like walk/run/jog, or steps (and yes, even that is fun!, you walk on an island, with the ocean right there, you walk through valleys, and over grass, up the hill and down to a bridge, if you let you fantasy get going, you are feeling like you are right there... its soo cool)

then after 30 Minutes of that, I pick fun stuff, and mind you, its still exercise, but its stuff I really want to do, and look forward to... like the obstacle course, or snow fight, or ski jumping...

just an idea, and NO, I am not a sales woman for the wii!!  lol
