Greeting all Dec, 2013 RNY Buddies!!! So...I must admit that the surgery was difficult. I had surgery at 7:30am on Monday. Was allowed to go home from the hospital on Thursday late afternoon. I have heard people say everyone has a different experience, so mine was just that ~ or at least not the experience I was expecting. I was dehydrated, had increase in white blood cells, my doctor had to work/cut through my adhesions that were on the liver. Also, they were worried I was getting pneumonia. Had a difficult time keeping my heart rate low enough and my O2 stat high enough! I have lots of bruising at the incision sites. Also bruising all over my arms & hands because I have terrible veins. I had lost quite a bit of weight before surgery but now I look even bigger. So, I realize that in a few weeks I will feel differently. I can not sleep in my bed, as it hurts so badly...only on the couch or a upright chair (not even a lazy boy - my doctor feels that it can cause blood clots) . Love to you all, Diane
I must say there are several things that I am thankful for...I got to come home on thursday, I didn't wind up with a UTI. There was a girl in the hospital that I had attended class with and she got soooo very sick - over & over. I prayed for her every single time. I was way away from her and still heard her...most everyone on the unit could.
It seems I am writing a novel :) But, I want you all to know that I do not tend to complain about much and that isn't my intention to do here...but I think it is important to keep it real so that people are aware of all the different kinds of outcomes/experiences that may be encountered. I am happy to be home & to get moving in a happier, healthier direction. This surgery was certainly not the easy way out of being obese.
Just counting down...getting excited, jittery, nervous, anxious...all the typical mind trips...but still looking SO forward to my new life!! Thanks for those who are posting how you feel when you come home, I don't like to be taken by surprise so this helps so much. I wish you all a quick recovery !
i keep telling myself this when i encounter doubters around me...It's your road and yours alone, others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you", it empowers me...but i get the most strength from this website
YEAH welcome to the bench. We need to build more benches as everyone is getting their surgery. I am sorry I didnt write to you yesterday. I worked for the first time then crashed when I go home. I will tell you this. Immediately after I had my surgery I was cold and have not stopped since. At 274 pounds I was never ever cold. I never turned my heater on in the winter and never had a coat (BTW I live in Florida)If it got about 72 I was sweating and hot. WELL NOT ANYMORE!!!!!. I have gone out and bought 2 heating pads socks and flannel jammies. I am wanting an electric blanket, I constantly shiver and its only 70 degrees in my house. So you may have to get used to the cold lol. I said the DR removed my warm button haha. Walk walk and walk. The more you walk the more the gas will dissipate and you will feel so much better. The first 24 hours is the worst How are you feeling now?

Glad your doing well. I agree the first 24 hours are rough. Its like your body is revolting against you for putting it through the surgery. I am almost 2 weeks out and have no pain and can go out places. I even worked 7 hours yesterday. Fluids are the worst. I am not a fluid drinker. I dont like to drink but I make myself. Another poster said they set a timer because they want to get the fluids in. I have started this as well. I dont want to end up in the ER with renal failure. Keep us updated on how your doing.

Welcome to our group Janis. We have had several who have had their surgery already and then some who are waiting. This is an excellent group to get advise from because we are all so new.

I have not been on in a few days. I am sorry to hear that you had that happen. I hope you are doing better. I tried to eat Greek yougart too soon and it wouldn't go down. It kinda sat there. My nurse told me that advancing too fast could cause bad pains...which I had. wish I would have known about that before I had the pain lol.
