Glad you are home, Karen. We had surgery the same day. I had a hernia repair also. When I got home I stayed on Vicadin for five days. Every 3 1/2 hours I took a Vicadin, went to the bathroom, walked around for awhile, sat down, used my Spirometer, drank water or crystal light, tried to stay awake as long as possible then back to sleep. This was my routine for five days. 3:30 a.m. On day five I took my last Vicadin. I almost threw up after. I just couldn't take one more. I hurt but it was bearable. Ever day my stomach went down a little and I felt a little better than the day before. That night I had my first bowel movement. I was so glad and definitely felt better. I have had very little protein up to that point. The nurse called to see how I was doing and I told her my routine for five days but that I couldn't get all my protein in. She said it was okay. Hydration was the most important thing. The rest would come in time.
Today I feel good. I am beginning to get in protein and just started taking the vitamins. Finally back to sleeping in bed and not my recliner. I can only drink or eat about 2 oz. of jello, pudding, cream soup at a time.
I use a bipap machine, too. My waking up constantly made it difficult to get long term REM sleep results. I only woke up once last night. So hopefully my first night of full sleep will be tonight.
I hope things improve for you in the next couple of days as you get further along in the healing process. I pray our GERD problems will go away for good.
Dear Lea,
l am praying for you as well. I feel like everything is SO much better now, than those first couple days. Today is one week & one day since my surgery. I believe that my main issues were...scar tissue. (have had 5 previous abdominal surgeries over the years) Very thankful my surgeon was still able to do it laproscopically. Have you had many abdominal surgeries?
Diane
Thanks for keeping it real...we need to be aware of any potential pitfalls we might hit. I am praying that my surgery will go smoothly on 12/26. I will keep you in my prayers, I am sorry you had to endure the downside of it all... Hope you will be up and running soon! Take care, take it easy.

Got my call from Kaiser yesterday afternoon... Have to be to admitting at 9:30 in Sacramento. Kinda freakin' out, but I know that it is just "pregame jitters" Lost my mind, thought I was supposed to be on liquids yesterday...nope...today starts full liquids! man..coulda had Klondike bar! LOL! Of course, tonight is our "making cookies for Santa" night with my grandchildren...I am thinking I am going to let the 13 and 12 year olds be the leaders of the pack this year! I think I will just head up the Dear Santa letters instead. Gotta love cookies, but ya gotta love yourself more and stick with the plan.
I wish all of you a wonderful day! I appreciate you all so very much!

Sorry to hear of the struggle, I know it will get better with each passing day. It is so wonderful to have this site, to get support and encouragement. I hope you are up and back to feeling yourself soon, I have been stressing about the crushing of the pills too...my husband got me a stone "mortar and pestal" and now I plan to put my unsweetened applesauce to go good use thanks to you!
Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year, isn't it exciting that we will all be able to keep our New Years resolution to loose weight for the first time in our lives for several of us!
Many Prayers,
Lea
Thanks so much for your post, you have started my December 24 th off with a bang!! I am scheduled for 12/26 at 9:30 am check in time in Sacramento and have been having anxiety about it...You sound like it was a walk in the park! I know that not everyone has the same experience but I am praying for your outcome! I laugh, i had 3 kids natural child birth and walked out of the delivery room...I am hoping i still have my breathing and focus techniques. Keep up the good work and congratulations for knowing that you are on your way to a healthy new life!!
I am 2 weeks out. I have lost 21 pounds since I began this journey. This has been the best gift I could have done for myself.I have had no issues at all (thank you God). I even had to call my Dr’s nurse to confirm that I indeed had the surgery. I was worried because I felt too good. I told her that if I had something hurt or go wrong it would feel more like I had surgery. She said because I did a good job pre op, my post op is easy.
I am getting my protein in no problem but still struggle to get the liquids in. I continue to track everything on heath tracker which I love. I started to work out over the weekend. I have a personal trainer who is a bariatric trainer. She has me on a program designed around my surgery. Yesterday I attended an aerobic class called silver sneakers. It is designed for older people. Those ladies were rockin!!!!!. It was just enough to get me started. IT was a great hour and I left sweaty and tired.
I can eat about 1/2c refried beans with ¼ cheese. I can finish a pack of cream of wheat. Creamed soup is about ½c. I have not tried anything else yet. I can’t wait to eat a salad. I am a vegetarian and am craving a fresh salad. All in do time I guess. I’ll keep you updated.
