One month check up

I had my one month check up with my surgeon and dietician.

I had lost 18 lbs and thought that was too little.  They assured me their target zone for month one is 15-20 lbs.  Also, the surgeon said he wouldn't care if I had lost 0 pounds, because he pumps his patient so full of IV fluids for the entire hospital stay.  I knew that because at one week out, I was still 8 lbs up over my starting weight and had no ankle bones.

In terms of my getting very full before I finish my shakes or 1/3 of a cup of food, the surgeon and dietician had 2 different approaches.  The surgeon is looking out for the mechanical functioning of my new plumbing, and my pouch adapting to food.  The dietician is concerned about my nutritional intake.  I've decided to take a little of each approach and go from there.

I've graduated from the surgeon and see the bariatric physician from now on.

Yeah. Great news. 18 is a great # to start with. At least you are loosing and you have lost more than 18 because you have also lost the extra 8 that you got while in the hospital. I know you were going to have a bunch of labs done, how did they turn out?

Karen, glad to hear your medical team was able to reassure you about your progress. I know it's hard to get the foods/fluids in at first; I feel like I'm going to burst after I eat 1/4 cup of anything except cottage cheese or yogurt!

How's your GERD doing, any improvement yet?

Thanks Pam!  I never imagined it would be THIS hard to get my food and fluids in.  If I didn't know that it would wreck my health, I just wouldn't eat.  I've had it drilled into my head all my life, "if you aren't hungry, don't eat.  When you do eat, stop as soon as you are not hungry any more."

I have had no symptoms of GERD or gastroparisis.  Woo hoo!!  kiss

No symptoms! That is AWESOME, congrats! I'm so happy for you.

And I know what you mean about forcing yourself to eat/drink. I couldn't care less about food at this point, it's a chore to actually eat now!
