1 month today
Well I am a month post op today. All in all my journey has been great. I am blessed to have had no real issues. I am eating solid foods just as long as I chew a lot. At this time I am getting in about 65 grams of protein. I cant seem to get the fluid thing under control. I am averaging 20-25 oz daily. I was never a drinker before surgery. I will say that is my hardest obstacle. My 2nd one would be o SLOW DOWN. I tend to eat very fast.then I get a lump in my tummy that makes me slow down. I am eating about 3-4 oz at a meal. I love morning star or boca burgers. After I eat 1 of those im done. I cant eat the veggies. I am still learning portion control and measure everything I eat. I also record everything in My Fitness Pal. IF your on let me know and Ill add you. My weight as of this morning is 240.0 I am down 28.8 pounds since my pre op. I do weight everyday but know it will fluctuate. I exercise 6x a week doing zumba, yoga, aerobics, pilates etc. I also do strength machines, eliptical, treadmill and recumbant bike. On the days I do classes I dont do the machines. My favorite is when I do the treadmill, I walk it for 15 min on 3 speed 0 incline. Every 5th minute I jog at speed 4. So all in all I jog for 3 min. I am so proud that I can do this. next year I will be running 3 miles. I love my sleeve and I am so excited I had it done. I cant wait to see how much combined weight we loose by Dec 2014.
One other thing, I just started back into nursing school (going from LPN to RN) so I may not be posting as much. I am on facebook (shannon McGee) or you can email me. Just so you all know you are all in my prayers.

Shannon,
I am SO very impressed with how well you are doing. I also bow to your level of exercise at this point.
I'm on Fitness Pal. My nutritionist wants patients to keep a written record of intake, and even gave us a blank food diary. I asked if I could just print off the summary from my Fitness Pal, and se said yes! Yay - so much easier that way.
I was an RN in a previous life. Good luck to you in nursing school! It's hard work, long hours, and way to little pay - but it's very rewarding. I loved it while I was still working.

Thanks Karen, This is by far the hardest thing I have ever done. For me the surgery was easy, its the afterward that is the test. Make sure you eat your protein first, chew chew chew...oops no drinking 30 min after you eat....slow down and eat slowly....did you get your liquids in? what about your protein? It seems like my life now is harder because I am obsessed with getting it right. I want to accomplish this once and for all. I told my trainer a few weeks ago that my body is no longer in control. I am....If my body is hungry oh well I will feed it when I want to, If its too tired to work out nope gotta earn the sleep. I am taking back my life and body. For once I feel in control.
Add me on MFP it is under Shannon McGee. I love the way I am accountable for everything. I add everything that grazes my lips. It keeps me in check.
I cant wait to be an RN. I have been an LPN for 2 years and want to get into the hospitals. In Florida (pinellas county) they no longer hire LPNS for the hospitals. My mom and sister are RN's so its time I made it a trio. How come you stopped?

Shannon,
Wow! You're my inspiration. I can't seem to get the exercise thing really going well. I'm going to try to pick it up a bit, I think it may help me with the latest slowdown I'm experiencing. It may also improve my mood a bit, I find myself a bit "hair trigger" and moody lately. I actually told my husbeast tonight that I was sick and tired of everyone's negativity, and I wanted some positive people in my life! I think the poor dude was skeered, LOL!
I've done that eating too fast thing a couple of times myself...ouch! It's a good lesson, at least.
I'm glad to hear you're doing so well. Keep up the good work, and pop in once in a while to say hi! Good luck in nursing school, nurses are amazing and I'm always in awe of everything they do for people.

Hello Pam. I know what you mean. A week or so after surgery I became horrible for a week. I was moody mean hateful etc. I even fought with my boyfriend throwing his clothes down the stairs. That is not me. I was mad because he did not ask me how I was doing lol. Im telling you the hormornes were raging. I was even in my night gown and walked out of the house and down the street. After a few houses I realized...Where the heck am I going at 10pm in my nightgown lol. So I turned back to go home. Luckily my BF is awesome and patient. He was skeered as well that that might last a long time lol.
I will tell you that I love my work outs. It is my time that I look forward to. I first joined a silver sneakers class which is meant for age 50+ people. Its lower impact and is not too taxing. It was good on my tummy. Everyone was welcoming and supportive. I found that I sleep better and my mood is way more positive when I exercise. Even a little movement is better than nothing.
Thanks for the encouraging words for school. I am excited to further my career. I like working with geriatrics and cardiology. So Ill see where that takes me.

Hello Shannon, I'm still trying to fine things to eat it seems as if salad is my best friend everything else makes me sick maybe i need to try the Morning Star veggie burgers and chicken patties. yeah I am having problems getting my fluid intake as well. My doctor said all of that will change. i went in for my first month check yesterday up I'm down from 320 lbs to 270 lbs. I'm using resistance bands to work out and walking on the treadmill I'm going to move up to the elliptical machine
Remember that when you eat salad it fills you up faster. So you want to try to eat more protein first. I will tell you that I love the refried beans, cheese sour cream and hot sauce. Its full of protein and little fat. You can also try ricotta and cottage cheese melted with mozzarella cheese. It tastes like the inside of a manicotti. you can even put ground beef in there as long as you can have it. As far as the veggie products I love morning star buffalo chix nuggets. OMG it so good. I cut a few up and put it in a lettuce leaf with cheese mayo and mustard.
Wahoo 50 pounds in a month. You go girl. I am so proud of your accomplishment. I know how hard it is and keeping on track. How long are you on the treadmill for? Walking is great I will say the eliptical kicks my butt. I can only do it for 15 min on 0 resistance. I try to go fast and get tired lol. Its fun though. Keep up the great work!!!
