Dumping

I am almost two weeks out.

Last night I had my first time of 'dumping' I have heard many stories about this and it can consist of many things. There was no throwing up or diarrhea.

It was straight out pain in my intestines. I seriously wanted to die.( and that is not even exaggerating ) I have had 6 surgeries, gave birth to 2 children, and I NEVER in my life felt pain like that. It woke me up from a dead sleep. It lasted and on and off for about an hour. I never, ever want to feel that again.

Today I am basically afraid to eat anything at all. It is 2pm and all I have had is water. I know I need my protein. But I am seriously afraid to touch anything else. But that is my update... sorry it is a downer.

Oh, my. I'm sorry to hear that, I've heard that dumping can be pretty awful. Do you have any idea what caused it? Are you keeping any kind of a food diary so you can see what you ate last night, if you don't remember?

You need to eat something. Pick something you ate a couple of days ago, so you know it won't cause you any problems. Hang in there!

I received some responses from the main group of RNY and stated they don't think it was dumping since it happened so long after I ate. I just called the DR's office to see what they want me to do. I attempted to eat some yogurt and it just sits in my esophagus and seems to not go into my stomach, Dr just called while i was posting this and said my body just doesn't seem ready for next level of eating.. the pureed. I hope they are right.

I saw your other post and the responses to it. I agree that it doesn't sound like dumping; dumping happens after sweets due to the sudden influx of sugars into the system. Tuna wouldn't have anything in it to make you dump.

Glad the doctor got back to you. Give it a little more time on this stage of your post-op diet, and I'm sure it will all resolve. You must be so ready to move on to the pureed foods, though...I feel for you!

I have not been on in a few days. I am sorry to hear that you had that happen. I hope you are doing better. I tried to eat Greek yougart too soon and it wouldn't go down. It kinda sat there. My nurse told me that advancing too fast could cause bad pains...which I had. wish I would have known about that before I had the pain lol.
