2 week liquid diet starts today

I've been pretty nervous about this liquid diet thing.  I was actually pleasantly surprised that I can add small amts of fruit to my protein drinks to make them smoothie like.  Also, I can have plain oatmeal with the protein powder added. I just woke up so I haven't had my first one yet.  I'll let y'all know how this goes.  I hear the first 48 hours is the hardest, so here's hoping to an easy transition.  I am very excited that although my surgery is a little under 2 weeks away, I feel like TODAY starts my weight loss journey.

I've been doing a mostly liquid diet (protein shakes) with an occasional Greek yogurt with non flavored protein powder added.  I've lost 28 lbs in the past month.  My surgery is in less than a month.  I saw the nutritionist and the medical bariatric doctor both thought the surgeon might let me skip the 2 week meal replacement plan, since I'm losing a fair amount with what I'm doing.

Janice - I'm sure you will do fine with the liquid diet.  My husband has had pizza, Chinese food, cookies and candy in the past month; it doesn't tempt me in the least.  I guess I have my eye on the long term goals.  You will do a great job with it, and I'm jealous your surgery is so close!!

I do not have to go on the liquid diet until 3 days before surgery.

Its so weird how all our steps are different. I have no required liquid diet other than the 2day preop stuff. I've been doing lots of stuff to prepare, and I agree when it seems tough just keep your eye on the prize! You are so close!

Okay, this is what I've found so far.  The oatmeal was inedible!!!!  Today I made a smoothie with some raspberries and vanilla protein powder, kinda choking that down.  So far, it seems that just the shakes by themselves are not as bad.  No so sure about these "recipes".  One day down.  I programmed by phone calendar to tell me "You got this" everyday.  About halfway through this shake, it went off, so I'm like "Yeah, I got this!"

What a great idea to program you phone with words of encouragement!!

I start my 2 week liquid diet tomorrow. I have been having a couple practice days here and there, in hopes to help me not have to gag them down. I'll let you know tomorrow how I am doing. I also agree with you that tomorrow starts my actual journey. To me, it makes it all seem real. Good Luck Janice! We got this =-)

Just a couple more days, Janice! You can do it! I hope the liquid diet has gotten easier for you. Remember, it's all worth it in the end. I hope your surgery all goes well, and that you're comfortable and happy afterward. Best wishes!

Thank you so much!  It's really not been too bad.  Spending today and tomorrow getting all my ducks in a row!
