Let's Talk Turkey!

During the winter holiday season it seems there is always plenty of turkey available for consumption. In fact, we may eat so much turkey we fear we will soon start to gobble. Though it may seem tedious, Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) patients take heart - this is one holiday staple in which we can indulge recklessly! Gastric bypass and lap-band weight loss surgery patients are encouraged to enjoy a diet rich in lean animal protein and low in processed carbohydrates. That great American bird, the turkey, fits the bill being lean protein, easily digestible and delicious.

Turkey is a fabulous low-fat high-protein nutrient-rich source for your living after WLS lifestyle. A 3-ounce serving of turkey is about the right volume to fill the stomach pouch leaving a WLS patient satiated and comfortable. Here are a few things to consider about the bountiful bird:
