Becks Diet Solution
Recent Posts
You seem to be talking about doing prep for getting on a diet. I always tell post ops to continue with their WLS diet IF THEY ARE FOLLOWING It. I don't se any sense in waiting to start a diet if you are following one no matter how poorly you are doing. That's like giving ourselves free reign over our troubled eating and that's a behavior we've done too often.
You'll see that I do disagree with Dr Beck at times and you are best served following her recommendations as long as they are not contrary to your nutritionist's nor doctors' recommendations. For example, I can handle drinking a little with my meals but that's supposed to be a major no-no with RNY. It was fine with my surgeons. Dr Beck talks about planning treats during your week. I've talked to a food addiction counselor who uses BDS and she said we can allow for treats but not with addictive foods.
Overall, you are doing great. BDS is easy to follow. You can generally post anythng here about it and expect to get a response. Anyone who is working the same program Day or a later one can be a valuable asset in telling you how they handled that Day.
Identify Sabotaging Thoughts
Today is about the importantance of recognizing and identifying sabotaging thoughts . I don’t think I have ever really acknowledged these thoughts, even in the past 3 weeks. Beck says that eating off plan doesn't happen automatically, that almost always it is some thing that we have had a thought or series of thoughts about. I can totally contest to this!!!
She suggests for the next few days take time to write down those sabotaging thoughts.
Wow what timing, this exercise has stirred up a lot of thoughts and feelings I may stay here for a few days to get a better grasp.

The response cards are fantastic and they work!!!!!

Took the kids to Texas Roadhouse, started to eat the peanuts, I am sure I ate at least a cup, without thinking. I was upset with myself but I started using the learned distractions. I thought about the advantages of why I was doing the BDS, I immediatly pulled out my card telling me to get back on track and I moved away from the container.
Now I am aware when I eat something I hadn't planned on, it is not the end of the world. I made a mistake, and I need to get back on track that minute. Which is exactly what I did.
I am learning so much with this BDS, I used rationalization to keep me from continuing to eat/ overeat. My thoughts at the moment were this is stupid, if I continue I would blow everything I am continuing to work so hard for.
At the table, they sat the delicious buttery biscuits in front of me on the table, I moved them to the other side of the table, started to talk to myself and it worked I didn't even want them after thinking it out in my mind.
It is a mind over matter thing, My advantages kept me on track.
When I mess up I am gonna jump back up and Never give up I am gonna make this work!!!

Bob, thanks for your honesty. Only you know your addictive behaviours and what works best for you. I am really glad to hear that most of the time you can avoid those cravings using Beck’s lessons, and are still loosing weight even though you are not following 100%.
I am glad to hear that even after a year or so you still look to the BDS book , that says volumes for this book.
Melva, keep on moving, your doing great! How are you doing with your food plan? I spent a good part of today thinking about mine and revamping it…Going to try to follow it more strictly this week. There are some other areas that I need to focus on this week like my to do list, its was really hit and miss last week.
April, I’m sorry you had a rough day. I don’t know what it is like to be a military wife, I can only imagine the stress you are under. If you want to talk about it on this board it is alright by me….I would rather you tell us here than have one of those one sided conversation with some evil junk food. So please feel free to share what ever you want here, we want to be here for you to support you. I will continue to pray for you and your hubby. I hope you enjoy celebrating with your niece!!!

Deal With Discouragement
At some point during the diet, life intervenes and makes sticking with the diet harder, cravings become more intense, you wonder if it is worth it. During these times it is normal to feel overwhelmed, discouraged and defeated. Doubt enters in, you lose your motivation and want to give up and abandon your goal.
Once again you have a choice, are you going to give in to discouragement or resist those sabotaging thoughts?
Tell yourself for today you will stay on track and exercise that resistance muscle.
Another one of My Mottos; “Today I’ll deal with today and when tomorrow comes I’ll deal with it then"( tomorrow is never going to arrive, ha, ha, ha!!!)
