Note that Dr Beck insists that you work the program in the order it is written--do not skip around.  If you come to a Day of the Program that you read over and do not want to do, at least you have looked at it.  I don't plan meals a day in advance.  I do plan on the amounts of food I will eat at each meal, I weigh and measure my food, and I keep track of it when I am working the program.  I can understand that doing things Dr Beck's way may provide a better chance for continued success but in honesty I know I won't be following any program if I am that strict.

You have probably been dealing with an eating and weight problem for a long time.  Dr Beck's Days -actually lessons or strategies--often build on the prior day.  You just can't start in the middle of the program.

You will get the help you need in this group.  I am going much slower--a Day or lesson--per calendar week in the Hunger and Food Troubles Forum.  So far, I've been the only person posting there and others have been reading it.  I'll gladly refer people to this group.  I just need to review Beck's slowly.  I did go through the program last year and lost 50 lbs because of it with very little exercise.  Bob

It's about 1130pm here in AZ. I am reading, day 19 in my BDS book.It is starting to get a little scary, can I really do this. I mean really do this and make the needed lifestyle changes. My advantage list is so long and powerful, I'd be crazy not to look straight ahead and JUST DO IT!

Well I have decided I am going to do this it's all about a choice and the fact being i have NO CHOICE that's if I want to loose weight, and sometimes when things are looking rough that motivation will keep me (us) going. I am very motivated when I come to the group sites and interact with everybody, and looking at my advantages makes me visualize myself a lot healthier and happier.

My biggest Motivation My youngest son will be graduating from high school in May 2012,I will be at my goal weight I am gonna take him on a 7 day cruise, and of course I won't overeat.. LOL.

Happy, thank you for your wisdom, all these thing I know are true. Some times its good to just get it out . "A dirty little secret is not a dirty little secret if it's out in the open".

Your so right about the refreshments LOL lately I have been entertaining having a couple glasses of wine but have resisted because of the extra calories, and the cheese and crackers that would have to be brought out to go with it. The wine remains untouched!

I am going to make a Lets Not Have A Pity Party Card.

SJB - Treats are important - but treats don't have to be food.  Cut out treats (which are healthy) and sooner or later  you will be having a pity party.  This is FOREVER.  And it isn't healthy to never reward (or treat) yourself.

GRRRRR - oops - the problem is you are trying to leave the dirt under the rug which is exactly where it DOES NOT belong.  Until you deal with the dirt you are doomed to go back to eating - we don't re-invent the wheel.  When that "stinkin' thinkin'" rears its ugly head and we won't deal with it - we turn to food to escape.

The problem with pity parties is, we want to serve refreshments when we have one.

Think on this, you can breathe, you can walk, you are happily married, you are alive, you can think well (or at least normally LOL), you can see, you aren't in a wheel chair.  Lots of reasons to NOT have a pity party.

Glad yours is over.

Topic: RE: Coping
Some days are easy and some are hard and tha will always be the case.  Some days I have to repeat to myself over and over and over again - Hunger DOES NOT = emergency.

Now none of us would admit to ourselves or others that we believe we will die if we do not eat when we are craving (and they are cravings - few of us know anything about real "tummy hunger" but we sure know a whole lot about head hunger - our problem is about .01% physical and 99.99% mental/emoional)  We would probably even deny that we believe we will die.  Bu****ch us - what we do speaks so loud we can't hear what we say.  We sure ACT like it would be fatal for us if we didn't give into that craving.  I've never known anyone to fall over dead because they did not give in to a craving - but lots and lots of people give in to their cravings, become morbidly obese, and fall over dead from complications.

Take it 5 minutes at a time - we can do almost anything for 5 minutes, even resist giving in to a craving.  At the end of each 5 minutes give yourself a non-food reward (like a great big old pat on the back) and start the next 5 minutes.  Brag to someone who understands - there are several groups that would understand - this one, Back On Track Together are two examples.

Understand that we always will have to do somethings we don't WANT to do.  That's life.  If you have children, you don't give them a "vote" on whether or not the WANT to do something that is life threatening.  You expect/demand that they will mind you.  We need to knock off with the double standard.  We need to expect/demand that we do what we need to do to stay alive and  healthy.  We need to quit "voting" on whether or not we WANT to do it.

It's all between our ears - how we think is how we eat.  If we want to eat healthy we have to think healthy.  There's no mystical magic way to always WANT to stay compliant.  Anyone who thinks weight loss surgery is the easy way out just is living in a fantasy world.  It is a tool, but it's up to use our tool.

Go back and review the basics - start there.  Then make a list of all the reasons you wanted the surgery in the first place.  Make a list of the good things that have happened since the surgery.

YOU CAN SUCCED IF YOU CHOSE TO give the time, effort, and attention you need to stay compliant - it's always a choice.
