Make Time and Energy for Dieting

The BDS makes the point that in order to be successful at dieting, one must have the time to devote to shopping, planning and preparing meals, exercising, etc.

The book includes some worksheets where you can examine your schedule and also work on prioritizing. To make more time she recommends things like getting others to help, not requiring perfection, etc. Many people aren't used to making themselves a priority and the book includes responses to various self-sabatoging thoughts.

Any input on the ways we are accomplishing these needed task to make us successful with the BDS?

You know that may be why I have not started this book yet. I hope is not a real diet. I am going to read because I like the fact that it deals with Cognitive behaviors. The phycological part of it is going to be my real focus from the book because this is where my real problems lie. Thanks again.

Hey Molly,

BDS is not a diet, you are right it deals with the behavior as to why we eat and cognitive ways to deal with each situation. she has you choose your own diet plan and an alternative as you are working through the program. It is excellent I have never went on a diet where you work with the psychological part of why we overeat.
Some of us who are completing the book are going to restart on  March 23rd so we can do the BDS together, you re welcome to join us then if you like or start and go at your pace as all of us did the first time around...

Thanks, I will not be ready on March 23rd Melva but I will be learning from you all.  I don't think I am going to get to even start the boo****il some time in April.  I know I will not let April pass with out strarting the diet.  I can't do too many things at once and I want to pace my self.  I am in no hurry.

I'm still posting 1 Beck Day for each calendar week on the Hunger and Food Troubles Forum.  I know I'm taking the program very slowly this time around, but I'm hoping I'll get the ground work done better and stick with the program for a longer period this time around.  I haven't regained the 50 lbs I lost while working the program last year.

While Becks is not a diet, Dr Beck has come out with a newer version of the book which does include a diet.  I still think we are better off with the diets our surgeons have given us OR with specialized diets like ones for diebetics, or food addicts at our own doctors' requests.  I doubt that Dr Beck's diet accounts for WLS.

Having received cognitive therapy for depression, I am fairly used to it.  I do want to emphasize that while cognitive therapy is used, Dr Beck does include many other strategies that successful dieters have used.

I can't say whether not using any of them may affect any individual person's ability to stay on a lifetime diet--a way of living.  I just can't be as rigid in my planning as she suggests.  And, I don't have to schedule time to work the program since I am the rare person who has plenty of free time and almost no demands or pressures on me.

Thank you.  I am going to give it a shot 100 percent once I start it.  Especially if it is only 45 days or so.  I also am familiar with cognitive therapy for eating disorders.  That is why I am excited about trying the book.  Thanks again.

Thats awesome Bob, there is always lots more info and wisdom to grasp the second time around.

I think  changing our mindset, using the tools Beck offers through CT and the tool we have through our WLS....... together that is a formula for success!

Use and plan your schedule work sheet . Take one day and write down everything you did through out the day  example

7:00 shower
715 breakfast
7:30 read Advantage Cards
11:30  went for 1/2 hr walk
12:00 laundry
8:00 watched TV
Then take a good look at it and see what time slots were use for you and your goal, you may be surprised.

Make Advantage cards saying,

“ I AM WORTH IT!!"

“I DESERVE TO BE HEALTHY"

‘‘IF I DON’T TAKE CARE OF ME, WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF MY FAMILY FOR ME IF I’M NOT HERE’

Make several of these and plaster them all over the house, when you read them say them out loud and with purpose. Most importantly believe it!
