Deal with a Plateau

Plateauing is a normal part of weight loss, we would like to go through our weight loss journey without them but they happen and we just have to say “oh well” and stay focused.

Some times it happens weeks or even months after losing a significant amount of weight, 15-20 pounds.

This is when our bodies thermometer tries to adjust and catch up with the loss.

If you have been on a plateau for a 3-4 weeks

-reduce your calorie intake by 200 calories

re-examine you food journal, are you taking in too many calories?

- increase your exercise by 15 minutes

switch your exercise up a little to shock your system

- you may need to increase your calories by 200

maybe your body is stuck in a starvation mode

Weight it out and be realistic

 

I wonder if my weight gain Plateaus? I seem to think when I am gaining weight I consistently gain 1-2 pounds or more a week!

Don't get discouraged.   Have you talked to your doctor's office to see if they have any ideas?  Are there changes you can make to your eating and exercising schedule?   Want us to look at what you are doing to see if we can help you tweak it.     If you are following the plan, it will come off eventually.    Keep talking to yourself with positive thoughts.

Oh no April, 

Deal with Plateau is  Day 38 in the BDS book. I have been writing a little intro to each day as I go through the book

.I am very happy with my weight loss since I started Becks, I have last 11 pounds in the 38 days....i'm good... no plateauing here... yet LOL

Sorry, I misunderstood....I read the part about consistently gaining weight, and thought you were having issues.

I went to the doctor yesterday for my six month visit.    They were happy with my progress.  Of course, they want me to exercise more, but other than that, it was great.

I guess I should have wrote,
I wonder if when I am gaining weight…if I hit plateaus at that time….I guess I will never know because I ‘m not going that way again!!!!!

Glad to hear your 6 month check up went well.

I decided since it was such a lovely Spring day out that I would get a hair cut. LOL the guy scalped me… thank God my hair grows quickly. Now I am off to find a hat, to cover up.

Oh no...I probably would have cried all day.   I get really upset over my hair.    The hardest part of this journey for me or discouraging part, i should say, is my hair.  It was falling out like crazy.   It has slowed down, and is almost to a normal loss now.    It just hasn't started growing back yet.   I have thought about getting it cut, but I am scared they will mess it up.    I stress in the mirror every day over my thinness.    The people that I think would be the most honest have said it looks fine, but yesterday someone out of hte blue commented on my thinning hair.  I was just devasted.   I had to do some self-talking so i didn't go eat something or get mad.

April I have very think hair and it grows quickly, my daughter came home and said you got your hair cut….its pretty short eh!

 

Buy some Biotin to help strengthen you hair and nails. I get mine at a health food store but you can get it almost anywhere you get you vitamins.

Most people that have WLS have hair issues about 4-5 months after surgery and then about 6-7 month it starts to grow back in. Even I lost major hair in my brush, on my shoulders, in the shower it was just every where.

I have heard that it is from the anaesthesia.

I have Biotin, and it is helping a lot.    I am going to get my cut.  I put the girls at work on a mission and we found me a hairstyle.    so, I am going to bite the bullet and get it done.     I am no longer in plus size clothes.   At my mother's urging, I started wearing makeup.   The last transformation is get my hair out of a ponytail and styled.    So I am going to do it, either today or tomorrow, depending on how soon I can get in.

Good for you April, I am a firm believer that if you look good you feel better about your self., and your confidence is boosted.

You go girl.... take care of you, spend some quality time on you....Reward yourself.. .. you deserve it!!

I bit the bullet and got my haircut.    She messed it up.   Well, not really, but it wasn't what i asked for, so I am disappointed.   I think it can still do what I want, i just have to go back and have it shaped correctly.   It doesn't look bad, actually looks alot better.  It is much fuller than it was before.  

I am at work, but I haven't seen anyone important yet.   I am waiting to see what they say too.
