Becks Diet Solution
Introduction of Molly S- gained 80 and not gaining another pound
I had Gastric Bypass surgery October 2004. I will be 45 yrs. old in March. I am a credit analyst. I have been morbidly obese all my life. I have a lifetime of mental and physical scars from obesity. Before and after surgery I tried Weigh****chers, other methods of losing weight. Every thing!
I have gained back 80 of almost 300 pounds lost initially. I joined Barbara Thompson's back on track program so I can get back on track. I never reached my goal of 200 pounds. I am considering a revision but I am not getting my hopes up on that front since revisions are hard to get approved. My program leader already checked with my insurance and they is an exclusion in my insurance that will not approve lap band over pouch.
I weigh 382 today and My lowest weight after surgery was 302, and then I went up to 311, next year 321, last year 338 and this year Jan 2010 372 and to date 382.
I use to exercise on average 5 to 6 times a 45 to 75 min each session and weights at health club and at home with Leslie Sasone DVD's. I was very active and one reason for my gains over time I am less committed to my workouts. So far in January I am exercising 3 to 4 times a week 30 to 45 min sessions with walking away the pounds DVDS. I am ashamed to go back to health club since I have gained 50 pounds since the last time I was there--which was February 2009.
2009 my knee gave out and did not exercise for 2 months last year and I have not been able to get back on track since. I am a failure I just need a readjustment and not sure how to get mind back in focus with my goals.
My biggest down fall is my addiction to and love of food. Surgery can not fix this so I have to fix my head with this problem. My plan is to start attending support groups each month and doing on-line back on track program with Barbara Thompson. I will not gain back 300 pounds. My goal is not to GAIN ONE MORE POUND and to start losing again. If any one has any more suggestion please HELP. Thanks in advance for all replies.
Welcome to this group, first of all you are not a failure. We all had some sort of WLS and after the surgery we all lost weight, that part was easy, but the work begins when or mind is catching up with our body or vice versa.
We are all working on maintaining or reaching our goal. This group is a safe place to be we are non judgmental and genuinely support each other. We learn and grow- in our minds that is from each other.
Now jump in get your becks diet solution Book and workbook if you want, and what we do is, after the intro we go day by day. this not only preps us for the meal and diet planning but gives us psychological reasons to maintain.Different from anything I have ever done and so far I have lost 11 pounds and losing, since joining this group. I got my book from Amazon.com used was in good condition did not pay a lot for it, and it is worth every penny.
Again welcome to the group, post frequently we are here to help...

Hi Molly, I know exactly what you are talking about. I started out at 347 in 2001, never reached my goal, lowest I got was 198 by 2003 . I don’t know if I thought I had arrived at this point because I tested the waters in a big way. I say, that at that time I began to eat my way out of surgery. I was able to eat very large portions and I had eaten so much junk that my body no longer responded by way of dumping. Exercise was nil.
Anyways to make a long story short just in June of 2009 I decided that enough was enough at this point I was 292. Just 50 pounds from were I was before surgery. I had been to see my doctor and he said for a price he could do a revision. I decided no way, I was going to work at this if it killed me.
So since June 2 till now I have lost 31 pounds, its been hard work but I am doing it.
I am just recently getting back to the gym, I was embarrassed to go back because of the weight I had gained. Now I am there as often as I can 3-5 days a week for an hour each time. And loving it!
You are not a failure, you just need to get your priorities straight, take some time to focus on you and your goal, and it seems that you are well on your way!
Your right surgery can not fix the addiction that we have going on in our heads with food but here at BDS we have found that The Beck Diet Solution book is just the thing that we need to help us deal with the thing that is preventing us from reaching goal.
Today I have another 30 pounds to lose to get back down to my lowest and then another 30 pounds to goal. That’s 60 pounds l need to lose to get to goal and with the help of this group and the BDS I am sure I can do it.
So Molly I can relate to what you are going through and I know you can do it to Molly. We will be here to give you as much support as you want.
