Becks Diet Solution
Beck's Exercise #1 Motivation
Motivations to lose weight:
Prove to myself I did not fail my surgery.
Like what I see in the mirror.
Be able to shop in some of the nicer shops for clothes.
To run and not have my knees hurt and not have to be concerned as to how it looks.
To be healthy and have more energy.
To be able to get my rings off.
Perceived Disadvantages
Its time consuming to have to plan to get healthy and can be expensive.
Feeling uneasy in my skin…bones that protrude and layers of fat that is in the way all the time.
Regaining what I have lost and having to start again to sabotage myself.completely getting rid of diabetes
Looking and feeling more attractive
not having to worrie what everyone else thinks or says
being able to shop in any store
not always trying to cover up with big baggy clothes
not having people ask me when I am due
Percieved Disadvantages to Loosing Weight
having people tell me that have lost too much and look sick
having a dh who thinks he can pick me up all the time
having a dh who gets anoyed because I will like to shop even more
having to wait for every else to get done eating befor we leave the table
Here are some of my motivations to lose weight:
my legs will finally feel good and I can walk comfortably
my general health will improve and all my co morbidities will disappear (hypertension, etc.)
I will be able to help more with my family instead of them doing everything for me.
I can perform personal hygiene much easier!!
I can shop till I drop now, instead of doing it by phone or internet - get some exercise & enjoy it!
Whether I like it or not, people SEEM to treat me differently than when I was super morbidly obese-they seem friendlier, more approachable & actually look at me instead of away from me
I am feeling better about myself i.e, I complain less, make less excuses now, am more pleasant (I hid behind nastiness as a result of being in pain so much of the time, I guess from carrying all that weight)
Disadvantages (perceived of losing weight)
Always and forever having to watch what and how much I eat! (Most thin folks do this normally anyway!)
Other anxieties will appear - ie. going out mingling with opposite sex, crowds, eating and actually sitting in a booth(and fitting!) at a restaurant - still a big fear even after large weight loss!
Sagging skin (everywhere!)Ugh!
Fear of always being judged even after large loss i.e, Are you GAINING weight dear?(maybe I put on 3-4 lbs but constantly being watched by my peers
I could go on but I think you get the idea
Thanks for this posting, it helps to see it on the boards
Molly welcome, thanks for sharing your motivation list. Feel free to post often, I personally find the more I post, the more successful I am. When I post, it helps me stay accountable. I would suggest that the book is an asset. You might check your public library for a copy. You can also find plenty of information on TBDS if you Google it.
Congratulations on loosing over 200 pounds! I certainly understand the increase in appetite and how frustrating it is that the junk food goes down so easily.
I too have child hood issues and believe they are a direct result of my weight issues. We are all here to give and receive support and encouragement from each other any way we can. Looking forward to getting to know you Molly
