Topic: RE: How often do you weigh yourself?
I learned that it is best to weigh once a week. Pick a day, mine is Sunday and that is the only time I am allowed to step on the scale all week. I am 18 months or so out and reached my personal goal a few months ago but was just given a new one by my doctor of getting to 145 pounds so that means I am starting again with a mostly protein shake/liquid diet and only eating 1 real meal a day and working out like crazy but I do know that if I step on the scale everyday, and I did this for a while, that I make my self feel bad and tend to be a little nuts if I don't see that I lost anything every single day. I like it when I step on the scale on Sunday and see that I have even lost a single pound, it just makes my whole week better, and if I don't lose anything I try really hard to still be positive about the fact that I am working really hard. Just know that you are not alone and that I am here if you need support.
Topic: RE: What do you mix your protein shake with?
Most of the time I use water to mix with my protein powders in the blender but I also use a lot of ice to make them thick and then I add things like natural peanut butter or instant coffee, my fave is starbuck via iced coffee, it mixes really well with the shake and it gives you a great taste if you like coffee or i add syrups, sugar free of course for different flavors or extracts because just a drop or 2 will do. If you are going to use milk you can use lactaid milk, i always put a splash in if I am in the mood but if you make them thicker with ice and water then you don't need milk and you won't miss it.

I agree with your husband, actually. I don't think we can get enough water... Since my surgery I have been sensitive to milk and milk products, which I do not think is such a bad thing. Our bodies really are not designed to drink milk after childhood, much less milk from another species. Milk sugars are just that, sugars. I am glad my body has rebelled against milk. As I used to really enjoy it and it has forced me out side of my comfort zone, to try new things.
Yes, I have tried soy milk, almond milk, coconut milk. So far, I like the almond milk the best. But the soy milk does have a lot more protein. Always get the unsweetened variety, another hint.
But I do not do the protein drinks as a way of getting my protein, too. So whatever works for you, imo.

Topic: RE: Trying AGAIN!
I can relate to everything you said. I know it has to come from within, but when you are feeling lower than a snakes belly, it makes it tough.
I am here to get real and to just do it this time. I am sick of waiting around for my life.
I know it will get easier in time, but the beginning is really tough, especially when you are beating yourself up for not succeeding the first time.
self discipline
portion control
great intentions
laziness
getting moving
just going outside
could of, should of all over myself
procrastination
only solution is to take action today
can't do anything about yesterday, it is dead and gone, except for all those tapes of self loathing we have running thru our heads for not being successful here
I think it gets to be like any addiction, we only get a daily reprieve. Have to really work on being vigilant.

Topic: What do you mix your protein shake with?
I have Isopure and I've always mixed mine with milk and now hubby wants me to mix it with water. to me that's a little like hot chocolate with water..ewww. So my question to everyone is: "what do you mix your protein with?"

Topic: RE: Frustrated and venting
It is so very frustrating and I know how you feel. I told my mom it's like my body holds onto every ounce of fat! Its truely cruel how some people can eat and eat and eat and never gain an ounce and we try very hard to watch every little morsel and still the scale tips in "fats" favor. Just hang in there it won't be easy but we will do this...together! I'm miserable when I don't eat my junk, my poor husband bears the brunt of my misery. Today he said PUHLEASE eat something..lol. I've been drinking my Isopure shakes and trying very hard not to eat at night...tomorrow is my day to start the 5daypt. I'm thinking by the end no one in my family will be able to stand me..lol.
Keep up the good work and the weight will come off....it's so worth it!!

Amen sistahs. I can identify with both of you. I started out at 290 and then lost down to 137. Doc told me that I needed to put some back on. That was my first mistake. I took it as a ticket to eat what I want. (I guess) I have gained back up to 220. I feel like a failure. I need that swift kick realllly fast. I know that I can do it. I just have to be accountable to someone else. I look forward to hearing some input from you all. Hope to talk to you soon. Joyce
Topic: RE: Introduction
Hi Amy, glad to meet you! I am a newbie here also. A little about me: I had my surgery in 2006 and then had a tummy tuck in 2010(I think..lol) and my lowest weight was 160-165. I am currently standing at an open door to 200lbs. I never thought I'd be here again, I realized my clothes were getting tighter but it hit me like a ton of bricks. I had a falling out with a really close friend, moved to Va (we are military) and left some really great friends and a job I love behind....depressing! All that served me well in my food=friendship mentalitity. I am very shy in person and it takes me quite a while to warm up to people and now starting all over again is like asking me to walk through the neighborhood naked. I love that I can come here and talk to people who understand exactly what I'm going through with my food issues and weight issues. If ever you need and ear I'm here...we can support each other!!

Topic: RE: Today the focus is protein
Hubby brought me a huge container of Isopure dutch chocolate and I'm going to attempt the pouch test starting tomorrow. I decided not to start on Monday because in my "dieting days' that's when I'd always say I'd start....I had a shake last night instead of a snack and this morning instead of snacking. I've got to stop grazing it's my NUM 1 problem..morning, noon and Esp. at nightI like the 5lbs at a time plan. Small steps....
