New Goal.....Not sure I like it
So when I first had my surgery in Jan 2010 my doctor and I set a goal of 160 lbs for me. I was able to reach that goal and then lost a couple more lbs and I feel great. Well, my doctor is leaving the area and so I found a new doctor that is covered by my insurance and got all my records sent and then called to set up my first visit. Now, I am 5'5" tall, pretty average and I don't think that I look to bad, but, the nurse tells me that the doctor has reviewed my file and says that I need to lose another 12lbs and be at 145 lbs before he will see me. Is that crazy or what? He says that 145 lbs should have been goal from the beginning and that I am still not where I need to be. Why is it that some doctors seem to really understand what is good for their patients and others only want you to be where some chart on the wall says you should be? They are telling me that when I get to 145 they will take me on then I will have 6 months to get the median weight for my height which is 135 lbs and then have to stay at that weight for another year or he will not keep me on as a patient. Talk about stupid. I have since started the search for a new doctor that will not expect something so crazy because that is what it is. You know those people who get so skinny that they just look sick, that would be me at 135lbs. Just wanted to vent a little so thanks for listening.
That is crazy. You should report him. What state are you from. Do they have a medical review board? The reason I say this is so that maybe he would get reviewed and then he may have to change his policies so that it could help other patients of his. Just a suggestion. I'm one of those people who believe in helping and being part of a solution to a problem with anything. I don't like to see people hurt in any way.
Sorry if my writting isn't perfect it just frustrates me about bad doctors because I have a bad pain management doc who doesn't listen to me about my pain.

I agree he seems a lil off!! We are about the same height and weight so I know my BMI is not in the normal range. So that is probably what he is looking at and then as a lot of us know we bounce back a few pounds and stabilize. My surgeon also takes into account age and I think he uses 20% over that dreaded insurance table they use for normal weight. You are still early out and could probably still lose easily IF you think you need it. Maybe your primary can do your follow up care??
