Did really good today on the no-'bad' carb thing...but was grouchy. Glad the kids spent most of the day at the neighbor's house (really better for them, than being around my arrghing face.) Did some yard work, does that count as exercise? I guess so, moved stuff around, weeding, filled up the recycle bin with stuff that should have been recycled before winter. Better late than never, I suppose.

Feeling ok. Went for a walk this afternoon with both kids for about 50 minutes, but need to get off the carbs still. Don't know what I am waiting for. I know I will loose more and I do have more to loose. I think the lure of 'bad carb' is making me feel 'better' at least for a little while. Realizing that I have been feeling depressed and not sure what to do to shake it. Maybe the exercise will help raise my natural good feeling chemicals.

Yesterday and Plans for Today
May 26, 2011 2:24 am
To restart my journey yesterday, I went for a 45 minutes walk with my son and played Wii fit with my daughter. Unfortunately, I don't think the cookies I ate earlier in the day were part of my restart.

After giving it some thought, I think the 5 day pouch test is in my future. When I had the surgery, I had hoped to have more negative effects to eating junk, but I don't. I was hoping that I would have dumping from eating sugar or fat riddled foods, but nope. Not me, nothing really upsets my system at this point. I feel like I need to restart from the beginning as the carbs are constantly calling now where they weren't in the beginning. I've read some that the 5DPT can help in getting off the sugar, flour bad-for-you-combo.

What does Back to the Basics mean...
May 25, 2011 7:21 am
I created a chart to help me keep up on the basics when I started this journey about 9 1/2 months and 104 pounds ago. It was very useful back then and should be useful now, too; but like many things, it went to the way side. It was based on what my surgeon and nutricianist suggested, feel free to adapt it to your surgeon's or nutritionists suggestions. I included blood sugar readings, beacuse while I was diabetic pre-op, I now have issues with hypoglycemia post-op, especially if I exercise.

Daily Nutrition Goals:                                                                     Other Daily Goals:

Calories: 1100                                                                                                   Fluid: 64-115 oz

Protein: 70-80 grams                                                                                          Vitamins: 3x

Carbohydrates: 100 grams                                                                           Exercise: 50 min

Fats: 30 grams

Welcome to the Back to Basics Boot...
May 24, 2011 4:41 am
As I sifted through several posts, I saw a common theme about people struggling (me too!) I thought a "Back to Basics" Support Group might be an answer for us to be accountable to each other and more importantly to ourselves. The concept for this group is to give a daily post about how you are going "Back to Basics" (protein first, smaller portions, exercise, etc.) All those things in the books and binders our surgeons gave us that need to be dusted off and followed again. I hope that we can build a community that cares for one another and we can be accountable to each other. I vision to post my daily intakes and exercise and hope to get a loving 'kick in the pants' when I need it from this community.
