Lap Band Buddies

My name is Diane and I had surgery on November 17, 2010. I live in Long Island, New York. I have lost 38 pounds total but only 18 of thos pounds are post op. However, I have lost 16 1/2 inches post op and that truly excites me because I can see the differences in my body ( Hubby does, too!).
I had my first fill yesterday and while I don't know what size band I have or how much they put in -- it was an interesting process. I think I heard the docs say I had 6.6 in -- whatever, as long as I lose weight, right? I have felt a bit stalled over the last few weeks, but my surgeon told me , I was where I should be at the moment.
I find life after surgery to be a balancing act. I think in the beginning, I wasn't eating enough and I found myself missing the healthy stuff that I couldn't eat before I went on regular foods (salad, grapes, cantaloupe, apples). Last week, I began to change the way I ate and varied my foods some I started to lose. My weight had flucatuated up three pounds but I wasn't owning those pounds -- there's no way I ate that much!! Since then I let go of those three pounds and three more.
I am excited about this group because I can use the motivation to exercise and just chat. I'm hoping this will be a more supportive environment than the larger lap band forum. While understand there are a lot of negatives to the band -- to be honest, I'm not interested in hearing all of that. I have this band in my body and my interest is in working it. I've read the studies and side effects. I know the stats on weight loss in general, I know the chances of success -- after all, if we are here, we have all lived through that right? So, I want to focus on my here and now and improving my chances of success.
Well, that's it for now! I'm looking forward to good things!

Have you had any fills yet?
Are you looking for someone at about the same stage you are?
Hi Everyone!! My name is Jess!
I had my lap band surgery 10/18/2010 in Boston, Ma. In Oct. 2009 I weighed 307 I went on a strict diet and in June 2010 I got down to 252. I started the "I can change program" in June which is a 6 month program required by my insurance company to get you ready for the surgery. I was 252 then. I had my lap band surgery 10/18/10 I weight 217 that day. Im now down to 190. I did this all for my son. Im a single mother and he depends on me for everything so I needed to get healthy. It was so hard at first but as I see my progress it gives me so much more energy to keep going. I have followed the rules so far......Im hoping I can stick with them lol! Im scared to try any foods in case I have a bad reaction. I started out by doing 20 mins a day on the treadmill and slowly added the eliptical starting at 3 mins. That was about 8 weeks ago now Im up to 45 mins a day on the eliptical! I work out at least 60 mins a day whether its walking, lifting, dancing or the eliptical.
I was banded 18 months ago in Austin, Texas. I've lost 115 lbs, most of it in the first six months and have about another 50 lbs to go to get my goal. I realized today that I lost 10 lbs in 2010. I'm hoping for more than 11 in 2011! For most of last year, I was focused on athletic goals including a half marathon, two full marathons, and a sprint triathlon. I still run a couple of times a week, go to BodyPump three times a week and try to fit in 2-3 other activities (classes, cycling). My next "event" is the 3M Half Marathon in three weeks.
My eating isn't great, especially once I learned what I could get away with. (Puffy Cheetos are the demon food!) I also drink too much wine (since beer isn't on my okay list.) I'd love to have someone to share this part of the journey.
