Topic: RE: New Here - Struggling With The Carb Monster

For me I have to go zero carbs for at least 2 weeks to get rid of the 'carb monster'. It is a super hard thing to do but eating carbs makes you crave carbs! The same goes for sugar. You will probably have to avoid carbs all together for a week or two to get them out of your system. And once you are off carbs again, keep posting on here so you are constantly reminded WHY you want to stay away from carbs in the future. Best of luck to you!!

I can relate to what you are going through. Ugh! I do miss grazing and have a hard time knowing what to grab and snack on. I think there are just days where we are one reason or another more hungry than other days. On those days, we need a quick easy low calorie/fat zero carb snack to grab. But I can only do so many hard boiled eggs or so much string cheese before I give in to things I shouldn't

I know this is so very disheartening!! I never understand why body's go into stalls or even gains at different points. The only real advise I can give you is maybe you need to do something very different with your diet to 'shock' it? Not long term or anything but maybe a day of liquid diet only or go zero carbs for a day or two just to throw your body off a little? It is things I try when I get to a point like you are going through now. DON'T give up or give in!! We have all gone been there and will at points be there again. We have to just realize, what we are doing now is NOT a diet but the way we need to eat for the rest of our lives! Best of luck!

Congrats on the new baby!! For me, I can not let things like cookies be in my house. If they are there, then I know I will have times when I am too weak and will give in to eating them. I do not use protein shakes and have not since the first year after my surgery. I enjoy food and can get plenty of protein from actual food so why deny myself food and drink a shake? It sounds like you are doing everything right and the weight will come off. It is just at a much slower speed than it did after our surgery. Hang in there and post often for support. Best of luck to you.

Anita Jo,

Congrats on the baby! How wonderful!!

Sounds like you are on the right path. Can you part with the cookies?

All I have to say from my experience, that the regain is coming off, but at a much slower rate now.

Not sure if I can give you good diet advice, but now I try to eat protein first and non starchy veggies. I do have a protein coffee every morning because I have never been one to eat breakfast. Will have a late breakfast or early lunch on my days off.

I would say get back to the basics then take it from there. Be reasonable and take care of your self. I know you are busy being a Mom!

Hi Deb,

BBQ went great. I'm really enjoying my daughter being home.

Off WLS topic. Just read your post on another forum. Wanted to let you know my husband had a kidney transplant 22 yrs ago and is doing great.

p.s. I had a piece of cake too.

Take care,

Amie

Hang in there Sunflower!

I think you have gotten some good advice.

I also think it takes time, more time than it did post op.

I do use some low carb products at times, but try not to use them daily. The sugar alcohols seem to slow me down, but when I cant eat at work, a bar in my pocket is necessary!

My only other thought is if you are drinking enough water.

Remember to be kind to yourself and not stress your self even more.

Big hugs!

Great minds think alike Amie!

Glad today is a better day. Must be difficult running like that all day! Makes me tired just thinking about it!

Sometimes I think grazing reminds me to make time to eat a real meal. When I sit down and eat my protein and veggies and pay attention, it seems to help me feel full, rather than me eating over the sink or popping something in my mouth every time I go through the kitchen.

Hope you have an awesome day.

Yoga tonight, and yoga nights I seem to sleep better.

Way to go Ruthie!

Cant always count on that darn scale! Sounds like you are doing every thing right. It will pay off! Hang in there.

Sunny here but still cold 44 degrees, but the sunshine is glorious!

Yes, thanks for sharing. Very interesting. Always wondered how claims that you can eat anything as long as you stayed within a certain amount of calories per day was legit.

Have a great day,

Amie
