IMO - it is best you can find out what works best for you, trial and error. Plus - as you would be losing weight - or deal with life changes - you may need to adjust your diet accordingly.

I know that I am very carb sensitive. If i eat too many carbs - or the wrong carbs, or at the wrong time- i gain weight even if my calories are relatively low.

Plus - the more carbs I eat - the more I want them..  some fruits and veggies are therefore no-no  for me.  But they may be OK for someone like you.

My pouch (I had RNY) is still small as long as I eat the right foods...like dense proteins..and a few bites of non-starchy veggies..

Fruits - if i eat any - I limit that to berries and only every once in a while...

Have also in mind that the more processed the food - the easier is for us to digest and absorb.  Some lean highly processed proteins (i.e. whey isolate, concentrate, other protein shakes) can stimulate insulin response.  higher insulin = slower weight loss...or a gain.

when I try to lose weight I get on a Low carb med protein-higher fat diet...

The fat makes my belly happy and prevents cravings for me..

I basically decide how many calories I want to get a day - i.e.1000, then decide how many proteins per day: 60-80 gr, how may carbs - 30-50,.. so the rest of the calories need to come from fat. Fatcan be our friend.

I not only look at total numbers - by the end of the day - but I try to make sure that all my meals / snacks are balanced.

I try to make sure that every snack has no more carbs than it has proteins and at leats as many ftas as it has proteins...

i.e. for every 10 gr of proteins I like to have no more than 5 gr of carbs, and app 10 gr (7-15) of fat ...

Topic: Suggestions for Nutrient Ratios

Hi, Everyone,

I'm new to this group.  I had VSG in Jan 2012.  I originally lost 170 pounds, but have put back on 30 in the last couple of years.  (Struggles with my eating disorder.)

I am determined to get back on track and back to losing.  I am unsure of what to devise as a daily food plan right now.  Some folks suggest high protein and veggies but very low carbs and very little fruit.  Some folks have more fruit with the veggies.  I also don't know what daily calorie range to shoot for.  800, like in the very beginning?  1000-1200?  1200-1400?

I've cut out pretty much all pre-packaged foods, including frozen meals, and most processed foods.  I like preparing fresh food and making it flavorful without adding a lot of calories, etc.

How does 1000-1200 net calories sound (depending on day's workout), mostly quality protein, two fruits and up to five veggies a day, very low "junk" carbs (ex: almost no breads/grains, rice, pasta, etc.)

I find it works best for me to eat six times a day with the three small snacks being a fruit, a few nuts, or some raw veggies.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Mary

Topic: Here we go..

I've said that all my life.  Esp. after my wls (vsg) Nov. of 2012.  I was 226 got down to 155.  And then... enjoyed my life for a year, then regressed, then ignored. So nearly 3 years out and I'm nearing the 190's again.  There I said it. I've gotton on track before only to get overwhelmed and fail again. I do know my tool works still, I know how to use it.  It's that darn will power thing that is so hard. My kids are back in school, hubby at work, so I have not much to complain as far as no time for me. (SAHM) On the other hand Im not too busy and fall back into boredom eating. I hope I can join you guys in keeping a positive attitude and getting on the wagon again.  I am going to liquid diet myself for a week or so to calm down my carb cravings (also diet coke) ugh. I hate admitting that.  Best wishes and hope to be brave and come back here and report.

Thanks!!

I started getting Back on track on Aug 11.  Since then, I am down 8 pounds! So thrilled.  Right now, it is the weight that really matters.  I desperately need to get back to a decent weight so my knees stop hurting.  If I can do this, so can you!

We have had friends and relatives coming and going all summer.  I worry about bed bugs but so far we have not had a problem.  We want to be hospitable as you were.  I am sorry you have to go through this.  Take care, Tri

I have been following the Mayo Clinic diet so I haven't posted here lately.  I do read posts for encouragement.  I cleaned the kitchen and vacuumed for 2 hours today.  I went shopping and did general picking up too.  I am not doing a lot of grocery shopping for the next 2 weeks because the freezer and pantry are stuffed.  I want to clean them out and it is easier to do when they are emptier.  My menus are going to be unusual for the next few weeks to say the least.  I hope you are all doing well and staying strong for the holiday weekend.  Take care, Tri

Happy September!  I'm so excited we're going into fall.  It's my favorite time of year. :-)

Yesterday went fairly well.  I stuck to my food plan, although I did have a handful of veggie chips in the afternoon.  Those afternoon cravings are the worst!  Especially as I start restricting carbs again. :-/

B: 2 chicken sausage patties (Jimmy Dean); 1 protein shake, coffee w/creamer

L: Cilantro chicken stuffed with spinace, 1/3 c Spanish rice

s: Sargento Balanced Break

Dinner: Mexican Casserole

I'm doing a LOT better about not eating anything late at night.  Little by slow, as a friend says!

It was a rough weekend.  My niece moved in with us at the beginning and summer and brought bed bugs with her.  We didn't know it until mid-last week.  This weekend was spent getting everything out of the bedrooms in prep for the exterminator.  To say I comfort ate is putting it mildly.  Now I'm bloated, the scale is up and I'm feeling blah. :-/

So, back to the drawing board, eh?

B: chicken sausage, coffee, protein shake

l: Left over "torch" breakfast scamble from IHOP

s: balance break from Sargento

D: Mexican casserole (made with lean beef), spinach salad

Not really low carb, but not crazy either.
