Hi everyone,

Im over 10 years out from having RNY. For the longest time I wouldn't gain weight no matter what then something went haywire with my thyroid, middle age happened and here I am trying to lose these 20 lbs. I think it would be great to have support! Anyone else doing fitness tracking? What eating plan are you following? Sabrina

There are three ways of dealing with difference: domination, compromise and integration. By domination only one side gets what it wants; by integration we find a way by which both sides may get what they wish.........

That is a very hard decision to make! I wonder if you do talk to another surgeon now while you do still qualify if they could tell you what they recommend? If it is a good surgeon they should be able to give you an honest opinion based on your past and current information. If it isn't the best of surgeon's you risk them recommending surgery based on the making money off you and your insurance company :/ For myself, I would base it on one question, "do I still have enough restriction from my pouch?" We all have to watch what we eat, before during and after. But if my pouch were allowing me to eat too much then I know it is only a matter of time before I gain the weight I have lost back along with more. I could not diet enough before surgery to be thin, nothing has changed for me. I need the restriction of a smaller pouch. I hope you are able to make the right decision and no matter what route you choose, continue to come here for support!!

As H.a.l.a.B and Brandi said, cutting the carbs is a good starting point.  No doubt you will have to white-knuckle for several days but after that the cravings do fade.  Then staying off them and staying on your plan should give you a great start.

I too am back here with you folks...had a fantastic first couple years on program, lots and lots of exercise, then fell off the planet in December. I haven't had a big regain thankfully but want to jump in and join the group before I really get lost.  I enjoyed reading the rules of the pouch site mentioned above; have never read that before though the principles are pretty much close to what my surgeon gave me.   So in the morning I'll jump on the scale I have been avoiding the past couple weeks and dust off my planning sheets and get back to it.

Good luck Candied, I think you've got this :)

Good morning botts:

I am seriously considering a revision.  A GI doctor did an endoscopy right after surgery and again a couple of years ago.  Originally I had a stoma the size of a quarter and a large pouch.  The last one was even worse.  He recommended that I find a different surgeon, but I was afraid of more surgery and then my insurance denied it because the contract with the employer did not provide for any revisions.  I have been able to diet down 24 lbs. since Nov. 2014.  Now we have a different insurance company.  If I diet down 4 more pounds I won't qualify for a revision because my bmi will be too low.  Part of me says I should keep dieting.  It really is difficult not feeling like I swallow any food so part of me says I should have the revision. I am fighting an uphill battle.  Should I take advantage of the revision opportunity while it is available?  Can I continue to diet?   Eventually will I end up at 300 lbs. or worse if I don't have my RNY repaired?  I don't know what to do, so today I will continue on...eating veggies, cleaning and swimming as usual.  Tri

My food plan today:

B: quiche

S: ff/nsa cheesecake, strawberries and salad

L: WW frozen dinner and turkey

S: frozen fruit and ff milk smoothie and veggie soup

D: grass fed beef, asparagus and quinoa

S: baked apple slices, almonds and craisins and Greek yogurt

Topic: RE: Moment of Weakness

My consequences for eating bad are usually mild and short lived. I try to keep them in mind to help deter but usually the urge to eat pizza far out weighs the fear of the consequence. You are very right though, feeling guilty will lead to feeling bad about ourselves and eating more! EVERYONE eats more or things they shouldn't every once in a while!! So we have to not dwell on that. BUT we do have to be tough on ourselves. We are trying to lose weight! We ARE going to be hungry and ARE going to have to deny ourselves things we crave! Fact of life when losing weight. Each time I turn down a bad food choice or walk around "hungry", I tell myself I should be proud! Those are the moments that will make a difference with the scale! Those are the times my body is burning the fat away. I think it is important for our bodies to learn what REAL hunger is again. I think we forget after years of being over eaters what REAL hunger feels like. If we are not REALLY hungry at times then we are over eating! And I know for me personally, the less I eat the less it takes to fill me up. I do have to go through a period of hunger, but after a week or two at most I feel full much quicker sooner! I have to plan how much I am going to eat BEFORE I start to eat my meal. When that is gone, I am done! Hungry or not! And I have to eat SLOW! If I do, I can some times even finish a meal and leave some on my plate because I am full. We are all in this together and with support from anywhere we can get it we WILL succeed :D
