Back On Track Together

When I first had surgery me and my husband ate the same things because it was just the two of us and it was easier to make one meal I just ate smaller amounts. I did lose at first but gained it back pretty quickly when I started snacking. I'm actually losing at a quicker rate than I would have just dieting. It took me over a year and a half to lose a 100 lbs when I did it counting calories and exercising. Now I've lost 15.2 lbs in about three weeks. I really really do recommend the cook book it's so yummy. I'm a slow cooker person myself. I love cooking in the crock pot. But haven't made anything in it since I got back on track. I made the unstuffed cabbage in a pot on the stove it was done in about an hour. Pinterest has a lot of good recipes.

I honestly am not sure which day I started eating better again but think I at least started posting again a week ago so going to make Sunday's my weigh in day. I don't know if I have lost any weight this week and yes i do hope I did, but in honesty, I feel so much better that makes me happy for now at least. My belly bloat has gone down and it is hard to explain but I feel 'clearer'? Despite being very tired from my dogs! thank goodness I love them. It will be a little harder today between my light work day and snow! Probably won't be going out on the roads much so have to avoid the dreaded boredom eating! Maybe do some online shopping .

Sounds like you are doing an awesome job! And isn't it great when the people closes to us not only support us but eat the same healthy meals we are? When I first had my surgery I was cooking separate food for myself due to kids living at home and husband was not ready to change his eating. I ate so very little it wasn't a big deal, but now it seems easier to just cook one meal for the two of us and any leftovers he takes in his lunch to work the next day. As far as how long it might take, I think everyone's body's are so different there would be no real way to guess. Some lose quickly others at a turtles pace. I only last week or so started "again" to get 'back on track' and at least this time I know (at least for now) that I feel so much better eating right! I want to not only lose the weight I have regained but feel good as well. I still have to look up that book you mentioned! I am also looking into getting one of those "Instant Pot" someone on another thread mentioned to me. I am just trying to see how they are different from a pressure cooker because my husband uses a pressure cooker often when he cooks. I'm more of a crock pot fan.
I am just curious how long everyone has been back on track and how they are doing? I have 66.8 lbs left to lose and I'm trying to get a feel for how long that will take. It would be nice to be near goal by my surgiversary but I'm happy as long as I'm losing. When I first had my surgery my surgeon was on his way out and didn't really give me a good plan to guide me. I Did lose around 60 lbs but I have since then gained every ounce of it back. The tool doesn't work if we don't work it right. I was snacking and eating non stop. I was eating junk. The only things I did right were stay away from carbonated drinks and not drink with meals. That was a big help because I kept my restriction. Even though I was snacking all the time the restriction was still there. Now I'm eating about 800 calories a day getting my protein in and trying to get my water in. I'm keeping my carbs below 50 a day but usually a lot less than that. I've lost almost 16 lbs since the week before Thanksgiving. Over all I would say I'm successfully losing but some times I just get so frustrated because I'm losing so slow. I sure wish I had done it right straight out of surgery but I'm so thankful for my restriction because I'm not hungry all the time. Now that the carbs are out of my life I eat three meals a day and I'm satisfied with that. My mom, mother in law, and husband are all eating the same plan as I am and all of them are losing as well. None of them have had surgery and my husband probably won't have surgery now that he sees he can lose this weight doing it like this. He has almost 200 lbs to lose so it will be a long journey but I have confidence that he will be able to do it. I love my new cook book and Pinterest who have both showed me tons of yummy low carb recipes. I made unstuffed cabbage soup the day before yesterday and have been living on it since. Yum it is so good. The cook book I bought is called SIX INGREDIENTS OR LESS LOW-CARB COOKING. I got it on amazon for a couple of bucks. I think it was like six with shipping. So worth the purchase.
Lol. I am only a little sorry. ...lol.. Funny thing though... When I start making the food, I can't wait for it to become so I can have my "meal". And it feels like I can eat and eat and eat.. But the food is so rich, and flavorful, that one serving is more than enough. Really.
I use ingredients of high quality, organic if I can find it and it is afordable.
A few weeks ago I made a whole hutch (3 times the volume) or pumpkin bread, muffins and cookies : 1/3 was bread, 1/3 muffins, then to last 1/3 I added slivered almonds, frozen cranberries, some sunflower seeds...and I got dense "cookies".
Most of it is prepacked in 1-2 serving sizes and still frozen. I eat it but I don't overeat it - it does not have a lot of sugar (the natural from nuts and pumpkin) so it does not trigger cravings for it. It is still comfort food, but like any other food.
If I want a richer experiance - I may add a tsp of PB and SF preserves..
Similar batter can be used to make ...waffles or pancakes (i do have some frozen .....)
Sometimes I use winter squash leftovers - add eggs, some coconut or almond flour and make pancakes or waffles. Sometimes to use the leftovers or just because... And you can make that sweet or savory..

Second day I have woke up very tired!! Unusual for me. I tend to get up same time each morning weather I have to work or not. Don't even need to set an alarm. But the last 2 days I feel like I could stay in bed for hours more I don't really think it is the change in how I'm eating because once I'm up and moving and get my coffee in, I feel pretty good (although still not as much energy as normal). But I am currently having dog 'issues' in the house and figure it's that for sure. Have to figure out a solution to the 2 of them being able to sleep together or something so I can start to get sleep! Any ways, busy work day today. Should be putting some ham in the crock pot right now so that dinner is set and ready when I get home but can't yet muster up the energy to move much more than my fingers at the moment. But ham is easy so I'm sure it will be a good food choice day for me.

Congratulations and yes you should be proud of yourself!! I agree mindset is the key. And no surgery can alter that, only us. I am going to look up that book you mentioned! I am always looking for low carb simple meal idea's so thank you for sharing that. I also experienced that blah feeling after eating a high carb meal when I have been away from them for a long time. Those are the experiences I try to keep in mind for days/times when I get tempted. But it is a slippery slope because after you make it past the blah of one high carb meal your body usually adjusts and that feeling goes away. I get the same way when I try to drink a sugary soda after not having one for a long time! The first few drinks are like, 'how did I ever force this stuff down me?'. But by the second glass it is the best tasting drink ever. Odd how that works.
I've gotten back on track and have lost 16. 6 lbs so far. I am almost four years out and finally losing. It's a lot easier now then it was when I had the surgery. Frame of mind is everything. It really is. I thought that I'd never lose the weight and thought that I failed miserably, but here I am losing weight. I'm so proud of myself. I'm sticking to it without any problems. I haven't had any cravings though I have to admit I do have days that I'm hungry all the time. I average about 800 calories a day and sometimes it's a struggle to even get that many in. I've found a cook book called SIX INGREDIENTS OR LESS> LOW- CARB COOKING it's a wonderful cook book. That and I use pinterest a lot to scrounge up some good food. Now I look forward to cooking all the yummy recipes. I don't feel like I'm on a diet. I don't feel like I'm witholding good foods from myself. I did have a day that I "cheated" I had pizza and crackers. I still lost weight the next day and I wasn't satisfied with the food. It just kind of made me feel blah. It wasn't nearly as good as I had remembered. Funny how that happens huh? I got a few bags of sugar free candy in case I get cravings but so far I haven't needed them. I made it through Thankgsiving without cheating and I'm confident I can do the same for Christmas.
if i cook the "good food" - my samples are my meals. and they do feel me up.
imagine - the warm "bread like buns" - tasting like rye bread (caraways seeds) with mustard, cold cuts - slice of tomato... and a few slices of pickles.. yummy... lol..
i pack and freeze then 'bread and cookies"
I made a very moist pumpkin "bread" - just added one more egg and 1/3 can of pumpkin and some pumpkin spice... it is amazing with my coffee in the morning...warmed up in a microwave...
