long term- more energy - eventually
short term - we all are so different... and respond differently to things.
my body is super sensitive. I had minor leg cramps, minor belly - gut cramps.. Felp like alight fever the evening after the infusion... Little nausea... but most effect were minor...
I chose very light diet the day before, the day off and the day after. Some of the iron we get ends up in our gut (liver filters it and dumps into small intestines), so I choose not to take any calcium or calcium rich food in the day of and the day after the infusion, to maximise iron absorption. I also added some extra vitamins, (C, multi) plus I make sure I loaded on my proteins for a few days. Iron binds with proteins - so i wanted to make sure I have enough in my blood.. (protein shakes based on coconut milk) .
The iron that ends up in the bowels - can be constipation - so I made sure I had good BM (I used Miralax).gentle exercise helped with some minor muscles cramps. so did hot bath...

Hugs to you.....Since I haven't had an iron infusion, I did a search. I don't know if these will help or cover what you'll have but below are some links:

I took some citrate magnesium last night as nothing else was working. I think it was carbonated as my sleeve was not feelings it. I could hardly eat any dinner and so today has been light. My sleeve is feeling irritated. Also it didn't work. I know this is because my carbs are low and I am not getting enough fiber from veggies and have stopped oatmeal until I lose the regain.
B-protein shake
L-a bit of chicken
D-suppose to have salmon and broccoli, but have no appetite.
hugs..
that's why it is so critical to test ferritin. (iron storage).
Also - a lot of times iron levels can be great, hemoglobin good but the ferritin tanking really low..
Once they get depleted - it is a step to severe anemia...
In the future - insist that the doc runs not only iron - but also ferritin and once that number starts dropping - you may need iron infusions before your hemoglobin and RBC drop..
I go to my hemo doc to get infused when I see my ferritin drop below 30... Even though normal on my labs show as 10-200... we know that once my ferritin drops below 30 I get tired, depressed and overall really weak...

It doesn't hurt to give it a shot.
I'm in a serious stage right now that I'm willing to take anything that will help me recover.
I have always been anemic but gosh, I've been feeling so dizzy that it's scary.
Thanks for your feedback.
It is nice to have you back!!
20 miles in three days with 6 high school girls??? WOW - lol.
Another snow day for my sons. They love it now but when they have to make it up at the end of the school year they won't! Great day at work doing things I really love and learned some new things which I really love. Being on track just makes everything better because I feel better physically and mentally.
Here's my eats for today:
B - 2 cups of coffee w/cream and Splenda
L - Turkey patty with lettuce, tomato and honey mustard (no bun)
D - Talipia with steamed broccoli
S - Apple with 1 slice of cheddar cheese
Have a happy, healthy day!

I had WLS in 2001 and everything was fine until the past two years. I've had big problems with very low levels of iron from my labs.
I tried different supplements and tried Vitronc before my doctor told me I'd have to do iv iron. When my labs were done before my knee surgery, my iron was in the normal range. I'm going to have them done again in a few months. I don't feel as tired and run down as I was before. I can't say the Vitronc is the reason until I have them re-done.
Please let us know how it goes. I'll be thinking of you!

Hi Vera,
Welcome to BOTT - I'm glad you joined our group.
I regained 30 and 32 pounds (yes, two regains!!!). Thankfully my blood pressure didn't change. Your regain might not be the cause of your blood pressure being higher. It could be a number of things such as other medications, deficiencies or lifestyle.
I'm glad you went to the ER and checked out fine. That would be an alarming wake-up for anyone. Are you going to have your blood pressure checked again or was there any follow-up recommended?
Way to go with your commitment to exercise and staying on track.
